“Very positive golf package experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2009

We decided on a golf trip to Ocean City and booked with Sea Bay because Kathy was so helpful and thoughtful and the package price was terrific -blew others away. We were initially concerned because of some of the reviews. We found the service to be good (met our few needs) the room was spacious and very clean as was the hotel in general. It was extremely convenient to all the courses we were playing. Overall our experience was positive enough that we are booking next years golf excursion with Sea Bay.

Staff provided excellent attention to detail for a party of 32 people from out of town. Within walking distance to beach, restaurants and night life. Even provided a breakast the next day.

how do these other people give this place 4/5.????????
it was the dirtiest place i have ever been in. i was in the room for 20 seconds and went to the desk to ask for a refund. the room stunk and looked like it was about to be condemmed. i now wonder about the validity of these reviews. i feel sure the good reviews are written buy the hotel owners and staff. i would not let my dog sleep there. not worth $1 a night.

My son plays for an AAU basketball team and we attended a tournament held in Ocean City. We spent a weekend at the Sea Bay and I had some reservations after reading a few of the reviews. Fortunately, my family and I didn't experience any of the problems that previous guests have encountered. Before you book your room, it does help to know the set-up of the hotel. The hotel is actually two separate buildings (A and B). Building A is the old Best Western and contains the main lobby and has an outdoor pool. Building B (where we stayed) is the old Sea Bay motel and also has a smaller, separate outdoor pool. I can't comment on the rooms in Building A, but the building is closer to a very busy main drag (Ocean Ave.) and the pool seemed to be much more crowded in Building A. Building B is on the Bay side and has a number of rooms which have a nice view of the Bay and the pool. Our room faced the parking lot, which wasn't a bad thing, but I know that a few of the families in our party upgraded their rooms to a Bay view when they checked in. I believe they were charged a few dollars more, but it is worth it. Each room in the building has a balcony and the balconies on the Bay side rooms are larger. I was pleasantly surprised when we first walked into the room. The room was very spacious and contained a sitting area, microwave and refrigerator. The microwave and refrigerator were brand new and spotless. The bathroom looked to have been recently renovated with a brand new sink, countertop and shower stall. A hairdryer, soaps and plenty of towels were also provided. The only downside to the room was that the beds were full beds. Queen sized beds would have been nice.

The lobby of Building B has a nice sitting area where free coffee is provided in the morning. The lobby area leads to the pool which is smaller than the main pool in Building A, but is much less crowded. The pool area also has a great view of the Bay. The staff was very efficient and gracious when I asked for local restaurant recommendations and directions. One of our party actually had a problem with the air conditioner not working in their room. When they returned from lunch, the maintenance staff had pulled out the old A/C and replaced it with a brand new unit! I was impressed. Be aware that you have to cross Ocean Ave. to get to the beach. Ocean Ave. is actually a four lane road which has the feel of a highway. Walk south one block and cross at the light. If you don't, you'll be dodging cars like the old Frogger video game. Also, you will have to drive to the Boardwalk. The Boardwalk starts on 28th St. and goes South to 1st. St. Municipal parking is located on 1st. and is reasonably priced and usually has spaces available. A few restaurants to visit would be Phillips Seafood (the lunch menu is more reasonably priced) and a fun place to eat is On The Bay Crabhouse. We ate outdoors and got the "all you can eat" crab special. It gets messy, but it is a fun experience. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Sea Bay in Ocean City and I hope this review helps.

Since this hotel merged with what was previously the Best Western Hotel and now both are combined to make the Sea Bay Hotel the level of quality in the facility has taken a dramatic turn for the worse.

Our room was so grimey it had an utter feel of dirtiness in everything. Sheets were stained and literally felt moist! The pillows had an odor to them that my wife and I used rolled-up beach towels rather than put our face in them. A "new" towel folded on the rack in the bathroom had a long enough hair hanging from it that would've made it clearly evident to anyone standing anywhere in the bathroom causing us to think that they were not changing the towels. My wife would not step foot in the shower without sandals on as the tub was clearly still dirty.
Above all and as others have mentioned in their reviews, the hotel staff is completely unwilling to help and take an overall "I don't care" attitude to it. You pay your money to stay, with the expectations that it will at least be clean and then are treated as if you are not worthy enough to complain by the staff.

If you are young and all you are going to do is drink and party and you could care less if you sleep in a closet or on a dirty tile floor then this place would not be a problem. If you have any respect for yourself, please pay a little more and choose another hotel. Please read other reviews as I am not the only one that has encountered this.

As cheap as the rates may be to stay at the Sea Bay Inn they are still overpriced for what you have to endure staying there.

We booked a room at the Sea Bay because it was in close proximity to a wedding we attended. It happened to correspond to "Cruizin' Weekend", so some of the issues we had were due to the overwhelming "cruisers" in Ocean City that w/e.

The hotel staff greeted us with rude behavior and utter lack of professionalism. I even said to them that their behavior was likely a huge contributor to the poor ratings the hotel receives on TripAdvisor. They did not seem to care.

Our room was bare bones and in bad need of update and repair. In general, the kind of room of where you don't want to touch the bedspreads and/or the carpet or corners of the shower stall. The towels were threadbare and so rough, they hurt your skin to dry off.

The worst part of the hotel was the noise level. We were given a room in the "Building B" (set back further than the Main Building from Coastal Highway - but with only a parking lot between the building and the highway). Our room happened to be facing the parking lot/highway instead of the Bay. The "cruisers" revved their engines and generally blasted up and down the strip from 5:30am until 5:30am. 24 hours. Needless to say, we got very little sleep this weekend. We were told that to change rooms to a room facing the bay, there would be an additional charge. Not a single person at the hotel mentioned that Cruisin' Weekend would be taking place during our stay. As we were clearly with a wedding party and not part of the car show festivities, it would have helped us immensely to know about such a loud and disruptive event going on.

Would not recommend this hotel to anyone I know.

  • Liked — Location was close to the beach and central on the "Strip" - although far from boardwalk and amusement park
  • Disliked — room/hotel lacked cleanliness, the staff was rude and the highway noise was unbearable.

We stayed the weekend of March 29th for a golf trip. The rooms we had were the ones with the 2 double beds and pull out sofa. We were in the 1st building (the old best western sea bay inn). They were a pretty good size. The water pressure in the shower was excellent and the mini fridge and microwave were convenient. The only negative think I could see is that the decor inside the rooms (bedding, rugs, curtains) need some major updating. The hotel is easily walkable to Fagers Island, Mackys, and Seacrets. We did not eat at the restaurant and I thought the hotel staff was very friendly and knowledgable of the Ocean City area. I would not be hesitant to stay there again.
