I should have known something was fishy when at check-in I saw a sign at the front desk saying “no cancellations after you check in”. We’ve stayed in better places in Paris for about the same price.
I contacted Hector (the manager? owner? who knows) a few days before our arrival to see if our reservation was in order. It wasn't and I'm glad I checked. He was less than personable on the phone, but when we were there, he was always pleasant - probably remembering me from my previous phone call.
Our room was clean. That’s about it. The floor leaned to one side, and we noticed the next day that our room was probably an add-on sometime in its history. Our air conditioner must have been from the 1960’s; but it worked. We always bring a small fan everywhere we go, just to create some white noise to make it easier to sleep. But, there was hardly any place to plug it in. The one outlet we found had the alarm clock and refrigerator plugged into it. The lamp on the table (across from the bed), wasn’t plugged in because there just weren’t any outlets available. No bedside table either. We did find another outlet behind the bed and was able to plug in our fan (and iPhones). It took us a while to figure out the Satellite TV system – only because we don’t have that system at home. But with only a ceiling light (and no lamp), it wasn’t easy.
Ah – the shower. What a joke! There was hardly any water pressure, and the water temperature went from cold to warm and back again. Not a pleasant experience. And the toilet - - the smallest toilet set in existence. Nuff said.
And their web site write-up about “watching the people on the boardwalk from their porch” - - Ha! The boardwalk was a block away; but you could see it across busy Baltimore Ave. and down Surf Avenue. The seats on the porch were not very inviting. They looked all dirty and I didn't want to sit on them even in my jeans.
Parking for only 8 cars in the back. If that lot is full (and it was all the time), there's additional parking about 1.5 blocks away.
The self-serve kitchen was out back on the back porch. I have to hand it to them - they did have coffee in the coffee maker ever morning, and good thing there was a Dunkin’ Donuts on the boardwalk at 5th Street to rely on.
No restaurant or swimming pool.
