“Great Location but Too Pricy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012

I took my three teenagers for a short getaway from July 29 - 31, 2012. I booked it based on the location and the amenities. We stayed in a Deluxe Oceanfront room. The view was fabulous and the kitchenette was very nice as it has a microwave, refrigerator, convection oven and dinnerware. The bathroom is VERY small - tough if there are four of you. For the price we paid ($300+) the value was not good. I would recommend trying to go off season and hunt around for bargains. The room was really worth $160 - $180 maximum. Staff was nice but not over the top helpful or friendly. I am not sure I would go back again. I might try a different property

Room Tip: Shop around for a rate under $200. Don't spend more then that on this hotel.

Side view ocean. 4th floor. Tiny bathroom, old carpet. Nice guy at check in. Way too much $ for what it was. Wouldn't be in my top 10 places to stay in OC? You can do far worse in OC but you also can do better.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2012

We stayed at the Howard Johnson's Oceanfront Inn at 24th Street from May 13 to the 17th, 2012 and really enjoyed our stay.

The clerk at check-in was very hospitable and there was a discrepancy about what was owed...they had a balance of $53.00 when I actually owed $159.00, so he checked us in and told us to come back in the morning and speak with the manager as to what is owed of which we did and the manager was very nice and handled the problem and everything was taken care of in a very professional manner.

We got to stay in one of the newly remodeled pool view rooms which was located on the 1st floor and had a great view of the pool area. We had a private patio which was quite large and had two very nice Adirondack style chairs as well as a small table.

The room was very spacious. The bed comfortable. however, quite high off the ground. The room itself was very clean. Loved the soft carpeting and the sofa was comfortable as well. The room also had a table with two chairs, adequate lighting, a nice fridge and microwave. And, also, a coffeemaker, as well as several packets of coffee.

The bathroom was really nice. I loved the oversized shower which was great when helping with my special needs sister. It was very clean and the shower pressure was great and the on/off was very easy to operate as well as the hot/cold setting. There was a heat light and vent which both worked well. A beautiful seashell pedestal sink with huge mirror above as well as large mirror on the door. There was also storage cabinets on the walls, which provided great space to store everything. They also provided complimentary mouthwash, shampoo, conditioner, hand lotion and soap. Towels were plentiful, large and soft. The bathroom was also newly tiled as well. The only problem we had was the shower was quite slippery even though it does have have built in non-slip strips, I almost fell the first time I used it. The tiling also was rather slippery, but just put towels down over it and had no problem.

The only other thing which wasn't a really big deal was that we did hear foot traffic from above, but nothing that was to the extent that it was disruptive and our entire stay we did not hear our neighbors on either side of us.

The entire staff from manager to clerks to housekeeping and maintenance were all very nice and made our visit enjoyable.

The price was very budget friendly. Also, the free coupon for the bucket of Thrasher French Fries was a great incentive...they were soooo good!

I would stay here again and would not hesitate to tell our friends and family to give it a try as well!

I stayed at the Howard Johnson with my family this past weekend (9/30-10/2) and had a great time! The front desk staff was very knowledgable about things to do on a rainy day. Very friendly staff! The bathrooms were updated, and there was plenty of room for 2 adults and 2 children in the room. I'm ready to book my stay for 2012!

I should of listned to the reviews but since I wanted ocean front we got it. The view was nice , location was nice and peaceful close to end of board walk. Hotel is a different story place is filthy I mean almost everything, hotel lobby is tiny and check Inn is not hospitable, Elevator glass has not been cleaned in a long time very dirty , hallway floors very dirty , room size kinda small enough for us to get our things but bathroom was very small no place to put anything bathroom was clean because they just put in a new shower no tub but rugs in room are really filthy you can see dirty trail marks in bathroom from rug. we have been in discusting hotels before and this one is up there , we would never stay there again nor recommend anyone stay there and if you pay full price you will surely be disappointed . We did have some issues with our safe on two occasions and they did come right away to resolve problem. some of the pool cushions had very large dirt ball stains could be seen from above YUK

found this place to be very dirty and the front desk is not very friendly hallways are dirty and room is a smaller hotel room with dirty rug , I would not even walk on it without slippers , very dissapointed they do not put any real time in cleanlyness , some pool lounges were extremely dirty just an awful place. Location is nice and peaceful but distant from main attractions on boardwalk .
