“Nice place on the lake”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2012

This is a great place for families. The cost of a multi-bedroom condo is reasonable, and it comes with a full kitchen. Unlike renting a house on the lake, you have an indoor pool and hot tub. Very nice.

It is clean and functional with great views of the lake. We brought our pontoon boat and docked it right there. It was lovely.

I agree with the other reviews that the condos could use updating - but frankly, with a young family, I loved that I didn't have to worry about new carpet!

We stayed in a spacious and very clean 3 bedroom condo. The pool and hot tub area were very nice. The location is great and the view of the lake made afternoons very relaxing. However, this condo complex really needs a facelist.

We stayed in Condo 304. We have 1 4 year old and an infant, and had our older child sleep on an air mattress and sleeping bag, the infant slept in a pack and play. Sleeping arrangements were not the problem. The refrigerator, dish washer, and stove/oven had not been replaced since the 1970s. The refrigerator door broke and sent two bottles if beer shattering on the flagstone floor. There was one afterthought grimy rug on the flagstone floor the rest was bare, and could easily be dangerous for anyone with wet feet. The wallpaper was bubbled and near to peeling from the walls. The bathroom was awful - the bathtub had so much rust no one felt comfortable taking a bath. The condo had no actual hot water, just very warm water that would run out quickly. I felt badly for the housekeeping staff to work at such a dump, not like there's anything they could do. But what they do is just replace your towels, take your garbage, and make your bed. It would have been nice if there had been some prestige treatment in there somewhere, like sweeping/vacuuming once during our stay. They're probably instructed to do the minimum. The dishwasher only got anything half clean. The building overall hasn't received much love over the years. The stairways are narrow; there is one tiny elevator. There used to be a second hot tub but they just put s lid on it and stopped using it more than a decade ago. The carpets haven't been changed in more than 20 years. The underground parking looks like it may fall on you. So there is little in the way of standards placed on the condo owners and the property management go for cheap on the building overall. Did I mention the mess of spiders all over our balcony and between every balcony bar? Again must be too much to bother to clean up for guests. We're not bringing our money back to this place.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2012

Last year, I went to Will O' the Wisp in October and, apart from the housekeeping problem, described below, I had a pleasant stay. This year, I decided to go in June, and there were some unexpected surprises of the negative kind.

First, the weather was cold and windy which made sitting outside impossible. Then the guy on the patio below my balcony started grilling steaks and produced so much smoke that I had to close the balcony door. On a cloudy day, the condos on the 2nd floor are quite dark, and so I had to turn on the lights to be able to read. Meanwhile, the family above my unit was running back and forth and constantly slamming the sliding glass door. One night, they talked on the balcony until 1 A.M.

The next day, I decided to go shopping at Walmart. When I got there the store was about to close due to computer problems and no backup system. Back at the condo, I tried to play a CD on the CD player. No luck there! According to the guestbook comments, other guests have tried and failed because there are no operating instructions, and the CD player may be out of order. You would think that the owners would have it repaired or replace it. Then there was the cable TV program provided by SHENTEL (Shenandoah Telecommunications Co.). Comcast is bad, but SHENTEL is worse. 49 channels, but no movie, documentary or Baltimore channels.

Finally, on the last day before checkout, the housekeeper was missing in action just like last year. However, she had the nerve to leave an envelope for her tip on the dresser. Of course, I did inform the owners, the desk staff, and I left a 3-cent tip.

Obviously, nobody cares enough to fix this problem. Because of all these negatives I will find another destination next year. It's as simple as that: UNHAPPY GUESTS WILL SPEND THEIR MONEY ELSEWHERE.

Room Tip: Second floor or higher for best view of the lake.

Thanks, Trip Advisor... We used the reviews here and are so glad we chose unit 309. Everything seemed new - TV, carpet, lamps, etc. Loved staying on the same level as the pool and hottub. The weather wasn't great, and having a pool, hot tub, and exercise room all in one building was fantastic!

Would recommend Will o the Wisp, and especially unit 309!

We have stayed in 309 several times and love it! It's on the same level as the indoor pool, hot tubs, and game room which is really convenient. The apartment has some nice homey touches and although the kitchen is small we were able to find what we needed in it. We like being able to spread the family out with the 2 beds in the bedroom and the choice of 2 pullout couches in the living room, all on 1 level. Great view, nice beach with swim area in summer for the kids and a boat dock. We'll be back again!

We have stayed here three times. We were booked into a loft unit the first time and have requested one each time since then. Very nice, very clean. Lots of fresh towels in the bathroom, a refreshing change from these days of stingy towel distribution. Wonderful view of the lake from the room and balcony. The on-site restaurant in fabulous. The halls and exterior are a bit dated, but the unit itself was updated with granite countertops, new furnishings, etc. Staff is very nice. Very enjoyable place to stay and a great location to enjoy Deep Creek Lake.
