“Snow Lovers Paradise !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

This was first time in the Deep Creek Lake area. We chose Haley farm based on its reviews. Upon getting here we were greeted by 2 cats and a chunky black labrador. The inn keeper Mariel greeted us at the door . She showed us around the place and then took us to our room ( Gilespie) It was very quaint and perfect for our 2 day stay . It snowed during our stay and Mariel kept the driveway in good order ( I don't have snow tires) She also recommended Dutchs restaurant for dinner and it was deish! Try the Filet . We relaxed and enjoyed the quaint atmosphere of the whole place ! The fresh fruit always available is a plus and the breakfast was HUGE and filling ! I loved the blueberry souflee , even got the recipie.. We like that children are not allowed at this particular B&B , however Mariels children were there during the stay and were very friendly and a pleasure to meet , They let us borrow their sleds and have a GREAT sled riding hill ! We will be back to enjoy this farm during the summer months to enjoy another season here ! Thanks so much for a relaxing time !

We have no complaints about the Mariel, the food or the view, but we were disappointed in our room. We picked a room with a hot tub and after a day of skiing were looking forward to soaking but it ran out of hot water about half way through. Also, along the lines of some other reviews, there a bunch of very simple things that could be done to update and make the inn nicer. The light switch plates are cracked and old, the sink under the vanity in our room looked like it was from the 70's and minimally could use a paint job and new knobs, the curtains fell down when we tried to close them because they are cheap spring loaded rods, etc. For the $ we paid we were a little disappointed and probably won't be coming back.

We had high hopes for this B&B, but unfortunately the experience largely fell short of our expectations.

I'll preface by saying that the location is stunning. We really did feel like we got snowed in on an old farm. There are 10 guest rooms: 5 or 6 in the main lodge, 2 or 3 in the old carriage house right across the driveway (the luxury suites), and a few in an old barn which has been winterized for the cold. We stayed in the Herrington Suite.

My husband and I almost exclusively stay in B&B's. We often say that what makes or breaks them is in the details. This inn has a lot of potential but lacked a lot of little and some major details. When we first arrived, we spent about 15 minutes looking for someone to help us. We finally showed ourselves to our room and then called from our cell. We were then met by a friendly innkeeper named Mariel. The actual owner is apparently living/traveling in South America. Personally, we usually find that we have better experiences at owner-operated B&Bs.

The decor in our room was outdated by our taste. The bathroom didn't have a working fan or a window (we notice these things because we recently rehabbed an old house). Our little balcony hadn't been shoveled at all, and the fireplace was very difficult to light. Mariel lit it for us the first night, but afterwards we couldn't get it ourselves (and we're pretty handy people). We called the front desk and then called and left a message to have it relit. The call wasn't returned, and we weren't able to use our fireplace after the first night. Also, on the evening of our second night, a leak over the 2 person tub started (we think because the people above us where using there's at the same time). This ultimately made it impossible to use. We spent a total of 10 minutes in it, and then were frustrated by the ceiling and water dripping down on us. We called and left a message which also wasn't returned. Of utmost importance, we say figure out a phone system that makes it possible to get help quickly. We asked the innkeeper about it the next morning and she said she had been taking her kids somewhere/we called a different number/she didn't check messages until this morning. Regardless of the reason, we didn't spend a lot of money on a B&B to be chasing people down. We left pretty frustrated because we solely booked this inn due to a 2 person tub and fireplace, neither of which came through.

On a positive note, the 2 person sleeper in front of the DVD player was super comfy and we used it to stretch out on while we watched movies. The kitchen was also adequately stocked with kitchen utensils/pots, and we were able to make a few of our own meals there with no problem.

Breakfast was nice - family style with pretty typical dishes: quiche, bacon, sausage, potatoes. The one dish that was pretty unusual was a sort of blueberry french toast which was really delicious. Otherwise, pretty standard fare.

We also thought it'd be nice to have some snowshoes or something around the inn of people to use. A lot of the others in the area do, and we were surprised this one didn't. Additionally, there's only one table for the spa room. We might have enjoyed a couples massage, but we didn't want to do one person and then the other.

We won't be coming back, but with some sprucing up and a lot more attention to detail this place could be nice. Overall, we felt like we spent WAY too much money for the quality of the weekend.

I brought my boyfriend here after a friend recommended it , We actually stayed in the same room that they had. Mariel was awesome and we met her dog Chloe who is a very sweet black lab. We went to brendas pizza and had the white pizza the best . Watched movies, that are available in the libraary to take to your room and enjoyed the snow that was falling outside of our window. We are smokers and there is a beautiful wrap around poarch that we were able to use . The Sauna was awesone after a day of skiing and so waas the 2 person jacuzzi tub in our room . We will definatly be back . hopefully soon ! Thanks for letting us stay at your beautiful place !

We have stayed at Haley Farm B&B in the past for our anniversary. This time we were disappointed. This place was once so wonderful. The innkeeper Mariel is very nice and very helpful. (We did miss Bobbi and Pete) It is the B&B itself. It needs to be updated. Have stayed at many B&B which offer more for the cost and are more updated. The fireplaces are very difficult to light. Spoke with other guests and all have had the same problem. Luckly Mariel is very talented and able to light them all. Older bulky tv. The inn needs to be refreshed. Old and outdated items. With some sprucing up and new items this place could once again be great. The grounds are nice to walk through...even in the snow. We were accompanied by a wonderful black dog who was very sweet. There are two cats that live outside also. Unfortunately the dog was barking most of the night and we had trouble sleeping. With some upgrades and new items this B&B could be the place to go but I cannot recommend it now at the prices that are being charged.

Room Tip: I think a room with the two person jacuzzi could be a better bet. Maybe some new matresses and couc...

Thank you for staying with us and for your past loyalty. We thought we did eveything we could to accomodate you. You booked a suite in the carriage house and then wanted to stay in the main B&B. There were three of you and we only charged you for one room, even though you had two rooms. I feel we bent over backwards to accomodate you and so feel a little betrayed by this review.
Most of the rooms have flat screen TVs, but a couple don't. However you were in the commom sitting room most of the evening and that room has a 42inch flat screen TV. We have Direct TV in all the rooms, although I dont think that most guests come to the Deep Creek Lake area to watch TV.
I appreciate your advice about the furniture and will certainly bear it in mind. As for the dog barking: Chloe the innkeeper's dog, sleeps indoors and so it could not have been her that you heard barking at night. I apologise if it disturbed you but it was not coming from us or anything under our control, and we did not hear anything that kept us awake. Again I am sorry you didn't have a wonderful time, or see fit to tell us anything while you were here.

We had a great time in the Deep Creek area. There is plenty of snow fun to be had at the WISP ski resort. The tubing was fast and fun!
The Master Suite - McHenry -had plenty of room, a nice fire place ( make sure the In keeper shows you how to light it-these gas ones are tricky - but are safe ), and was very comfortable.
Breakfast filling and tasty!
Highly recommend, any season, that you try this B&B!
