We had planned to eat at the 4 Seasons at Wisp, but it is currently closed for renovations. So, we asked Google and discovered this beautiful Victorian house which has been converted to a restaurant. We were put for our anniversary and so we had the great pleasure of partaking in all of the courses. A very attentive waitress greeted us promptly and led us to a dining room with beautiful antique furnishings. A long wine list and full bar meant Fantastic house martinis with great flavor and no skimping on the alcohol. We shared the best crab dip I have ever had as an appetizer and the portion was so large we brought part of it home.
We ordered our entrees and got a salad, seasonal vegetables, and he potato of the day with our meal in addition to rolls. The salad was wonderfully fresh and the house made ranch dressing was delightful. It is truly rare to find a house salad with something more than a few carrots and a tomato, but this salad came with dark greens, carrots, purple cabbage, cucumber, corn, tomatoes, and onion. It was large and tasty. By he time our entrees came we were already full, but our dinners!!! Peppered new York strip steak with a cognac cream sauce.... Out. Of. This. World!! Real mashed potatoes, sauted squash, wih onions and brussell sprout greens. I hate brussell sprouts, but these were delicious!!!
By the time it was time for dessert I thought I'd never fit anything else, but we packed up the remainder of our dinner and moved along into the final course... The best creme brulee j have ever had!!! And I've had it in France! The sugar crust was perfectly brown and thin, crystallized perfectly and the custard was smooth and not too sweet. It was a small portion, but so rich even the small amount was perfect. My husband had the bread pudding and was equally impressed. And, the chef even made a special sauce for him because I am allergic to walnuts. How nice!! It was a large hunk of bread pudding that again was perfectly flavored and spice. And, even though it was a corner piece not too dry or crispy.
Overall, a fantastic place not too far off the beaten path with great old world charm. And, not terribly expensive....Our meal of crab dip, 2 steak entrees, dessert, and 4 drinks came to $120.
