My dad and I were taking a trip across the northern portion of Maryland, and wanted to stay somewhere between Havre de Grace and Cumberland. We found the perfect spot at the Atlee House in New Windsor. This beautiful home is smack in the middle of beautiful farm country. The town of Westminster is about 7 miles away. Our hosts, Sam and Doris, were two of the most genuine people I have ever met. They even made my dad feel comfortable, and that's not easy. The home was originally owned by the founder of the town. In fact, he is buried at the cemetery right up the street. We stayed in the Compass Suite, which is a beautiful two-bedroom suite. My room was luxurious with a high sleigh bed and tons of ornamental pillows. My dad's room had a double bed and was a bit more sedate in shades of blue. We arrived at 3:00, and had time to relax on the front porch and chat with the owners and fellow travelers. Sam and Doris explained how they came to own the house and how it became a bed and breakfast. Breakfast was a fun time relaxing with the other guests and passing around all the goodies...a bacon and egg casserole, biscuits and gravy, grits, fruit. We hated to leave, but all good things must come to an end, Given the chance, I would definitely stay at the Atlee House again.
