“Cozy updated lodge with character”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

My wife and I stayed here after skiing at Wisp one Saturday and really enjoyed it. The staff was courteous and even provide a fire-log and matches for the fireplace in the room. The bed was very comfortable. The lobby had hot chocolate, coffee, and donuts available all day, which was great after working up an appetite on the slopes. It's easy to get to and has a great view of the lake and the mountain. We plan on staying here again next year.

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floor have fireplaces and the best views. Room 11 on the second floor is on the...

“Get a renovated room”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

We went snowtubing at Wisp, so this was conveniently nearby. Unfortunately, we did not get one of the renovated rooms, though we paid the same high price. The room was extremely small, with just enough room to walk around the beds. The bathroom was just large enough for the toilet and bathtub. The sink was not in the bathroom, but in the entryway to the room--a person standing at the sink would get hit by the room door when it opened. Since there was snow on the ground outside, we had slush on the floor immediately inside the door, where we took off our snow boots, so we also got to stand in the melting slush while brushing teeth. The sink is a single sink with almost no counter space around it. The room did have cable TV, free wifi, and a small balcony with a lake view. The hosts were very friendly and helped us find our way around. I found the queen bed to be very comfortable and firm enough for my bad back. They supply coffee and doughnuts for breakfast.

Room Tip: Be sure to get one of the renovated rooms.

Actually, this reviewer is mistaken...there is a rate difference between the renovated and un-renovated rooms. In any case, this 2-star rating is rather severe in light of the fact that the only real complaint is the structural layout of the room. Even her component ratings contain numerous 5-stars.

“Great location and value.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

Just stayed here recently for a weekend of skiing at Wisp. Highly recommend Lake Star Lodge, our family will definitely stay here again. They did not have a minimum night stay policy which really helped our family, since we just drive up from DC for a night or two whenever we can usually on short notice. They have three dog friendly rooms on one side of the hotel and were very accomodating to my pooch, Annie. They did not charge a large pet deposit which I was very glad for as many other places in Deep Creek require a non-refundable pet deposit. The view is lovely (looking across the lake to the slopes at Wisp, and we were less then a mile from Wisp and close to some great restaurants. Met the owner Sal who was very nice and welcoming and talked about some of the renovations he has planned for the place. The lobby and kitchen area (where they have coffee and donuts for breakfast each morning) is very charming with several seating areas and a fireplace. Both front desk staff and cleaning staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall a great visit!

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floor have fireplaces.

“I want to rate it higher....but”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013 via mobile

The good:
1. Location. Great view of slopes and lake.
2. Staff. Couldn't have been nicer.
The bad:
1. The cleaning person did not fully shut our door when he/she was finished, so when I went to insert my key, the door was already open. We were worried we were in the wrong room. So we could see our breath when we got into our room.
2. Also, the shower/tub was wretched. My wife wouldn't shower bc of the condition.
3. The carpet was filthy.
4. There are some outside steps that could have been shoveled. It snowed 5+ inches while we were there, and it would have taken 5 mins to clean them off.
5. Parking was not adequate. The nice manager said with the dumpster being in the parking lot, parking has been an issue.

Like I said, I really want to give a better review bc of the location and friendly staff, but I just can't.

Also, we were not in one of the renovated rooms so hopefully they are nicer(I'm sure they are.)

Our apologies...we thought that it would be more important to put you in a renovated room, rather than a room further away from the construction, especially since the construction would doesn't commence until after 10:00am on weekdays (only). The snow has been piling up, and the construction dumpster have taken over a few parking spaces. It's a shame that you didn't appreciate the updated amenities, the lakefront view, and the comfortable beds.
