“cold cigarette smell”

Microtel Inn & Suites BWI Airport/Baltimore

Jul 25, 2008

We arrived later than planned, but we called them to inform them of the delay at the airport. we were 2 adults, 2 small kids, we orderd a room for 3 or 4...anyway, when we arrived, they gave our room to somebody else. only one small room was left. the girl at des desk was very nice, helpufl, and offered us to call another hotel nearby to please us, bu it was 1 am and we traveled 6 hours, and kids were tired. so we decided to stay, They offered us a folding bed for 2 kids, which was nice but does not fit in the room. so we had to block the acces to the door and the bathromm. the smell of a cold cigarette was overall, bed was clean, but sheets not "flat" (not ironed) !!!???
the bathroom was renewed, very nice, clean, and comfortable, I loved it ! the room was quiet.
we did not want to take the breakfast, because the room was dirty, the floor was disgusting ! a good smell of coffee, and fresh pastry were attrativ but the breakfastroom not at all !
the hallways were not well lit, very dark, and the carpet need to be refreshes, so is the paint to be refreshed too!

My sister booked this hotel as it was inexpensive & close to the airport. It was booked for 2 double rooms, about 2 months in advance.
We got there late in the evening, because we had to get back to the airport to pick up more family.
We had seven people in our party & we got 2 handicap accessible rooms. (none of us were disabled.) Had one queen sized bed in each room. Finally got ONE roll away bed at midnight & not until 1 am did we get a double room. One of our party ended up sleeping in the bathroom on the roll away.

Then the next morning we asked for some compensation for the hassles....The manager wasn't to be in until 10 am. Another sister attempted to contact said manager upon arriving home twice; with no luck.

Rooms though were clean & quiet. Fitness room small, but equipment worked. They had a small breakfast area. Food was basic cereal, bagels, juice & coffee.

Don't recommend if you have more than 2 people in your party.

In short our recommendation is to avoid staying at this hotel if you can help it. Here is why: When we got to our room (non-smoking) we were welcomed by a unpleasant surprise: a strong smell (can be best described as a kitchen which had not been cleaned in about 3 moths). In less than a minute we were out of there after the front desk offered another one (smoking room, but we were willing to check it out). This room had the terrible smoking room smell, the carpet had a huge--I don't want to know what it is--stain, the room looked like was last re-furnished about 20 years ago. I should mention that the AC could not be run since it sounded like it was ready to blow-up. Since it was near midnight when we got there we had to sleep and catch our flight the next morning but if we had the luxury of time, we would have looked for another hotel immediately.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — Pretty much nothing.
    • Disliked — Cleanliness, smelly rooms, broken AC, windows that won't open, dirty carpet, old small tv

“Microtel, microvalue.”

I'd heard good things about Microtel, so I was disappointed when I checked in and went to my room to find the door open and the room hot. When I called the front desk I was cheerfully told that the maids frequently leave rooms not only unlocked but standing open, and the air conditioning is left off until a guest actually enters the room.

The room temperature dropped to below sweating level in an hour and a half. By that time I'd discovered that the clock didn't work, perhaps due to the liquid on and around it, dripping to the floor. I hope the liquid was only water. I cleaned up with a towel and again called the front desk. No problem; they would happily give me a wake-up call.

I didn't need a wake-up call. Thin walls and the early departure of my neighbors had me up at five. There are several good hotels in this area. Next time I'll pass on Microtel.

“STAY ANYWHERE ELSE IN BALTIMORE BUT BWI MICROTEL”

Microtel Inn & Suites BWI Airport/Baltimore

Jun 4, 2008

We confirmed by credit card our priceline purchase in January of 08 for our stay all the way on May 31, 2008. We called and reconfirmed our reservation the morning of May 31 and were told it was confirmed FOR LATE ARRIVAL and were told no problem. My 16 year-old daughter and I arrived at 12:30 a.m. only to be told the HOTEL HAD OVERBOOKED BY 5 ROOMS and that we would have to drive 15 miles AWAY from the a/p to get another room. We've never been to Baltimore, had to get up super early for an a.m. flight and return a rental car, and were given a sheet of paper indicating the new hotel address. We said this wasn't acceptable and after reading the sign on their wall in LARGE ALL CAPS that said, "MANAGER ON DUTY," we asked to speak to him or her. We were told there wasn't a manager on duty but that we could call back the next day. We had no choice but to leave and find another hotel in the middle of the night in a town we didn't know.

We called Priceline on the spot at the Microtel, typed in the confirmation code, FINALLY reached a human customer service rep, and as we finally got going in our car, she asked me AGAIN for the confirmation #, "listened" to our story (but then asked if I saw the hotel employee's name badge when I CALLED to reconfirm the reservation that afternoon!?), and then the Priceline rep ACTUALLY TOLD ME SHE WAS GOING TO HAVE TO TRANSFER ME TO SOMEONE ELSE!!!! THAT SECOND HUMAN TRANSFER was unacceptable. Priceline and Microtel should be ashamed - if no recourse is advised then we will be forced to tell anyone and everyone who will listen this true documented story of a single woman and her 16 year-old daughter being booted out of their hotel room late at night by Priceline and Microtel with no recourse.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — That I now know I will NEVER stay there.
    • Disliked — EVERY SINGLE THING.
