“Great place for a quick stay near BWI”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2011

A minute or so from the rental car pickup/dropoff. Not much in the area besides the airport and other hotels but it worked for my girlfriend and I.

I have stayed at the BWI Marriott 3 times. Each time the staff has been attentive and they happily go above and beyond. The beds are super comfy. The walls are soundproof. I get a good night's rest here everytime. Free parking, free shuttle to and from airport, free internet and printer in the Business Center. The food venues are great. I tried the Champions Sports Bar and the food was very good, with Bryan being an excellent server.

Based on appearance, the BWI Marriott is a wonderful hotel. The lobby and rooms are updated and nicely decorated. However, I barely slept the first night of my stay. The walls were so thin I could hear almost everything the people in the room next to me said (and did). There was an event at the hotel and people were walking up and down the hall laughing and talking until 2am. The privacy lock on my door wasn't working. The bed was uncomfortable, and there were hairs on the bathroom floor and in the bathtub.

Positives about the hotel: Hotel is conveniently located, the HD TV was large, the pillows were extremely comfortable, having a refrigerator in the room was convenient, the business center was nice, and the Starbucks coffee shop was wonderful.

However, based on the overall value, I wouldn't stay there again.

The room was quiet, beds very comfortable - and best of all, no duvets. Sheets and blankets were greatly appreciated. Buffet breakfast was good, though the placement of the serving tables caused a bottleneck at the waffle making machine. We had dinner twice at the hotel restaurant - good experience both times. The music provided by the piano player on a Saturday night was very enjoyable. Staff was always helpful and polite.

Friends and family rates are not welcomed at Marriott hotels; this became obvious when calling around to get prices for rooms. Custumer service goes out the window if you have friends and family rate. The reservations department was very rude, offensive and condescending. It was obvious that Marriott doesn’t train their staff on the importance of customer service. I am a Leasing Professional for a very large Management company, and we have a lot of people relocating due to jobs and or family related issues and sometimes they will need a temporary place to stay maybe for a night or two while everything is being processed clears and based on the service I receive today I will not be recommending the Marriott to anyone. It seems as though as soon as I asked for the friends and family rate it was as thought the whole tone of the conversation changed, as far as they knew I could have been a friend of the GM but I do not think that crossed their minds. I am leading my portfolio, and I am very aware of the importance of customer service, it’s all about service, networking and referrals and Marriott reservation department do not have a clue. I would suggest Marriott to listen more often to the recorded calls, and then maybe offer training were it is needed, and it is very much needed. Here it is there probably making pennies on a dollar ,and your judging me because I am asking if the friends and family rate is being offered at certain time, and the ironic thing is if they didn’t receive an employee discount ,they themselves would not be able to afford to stay there. Pointer for Marriott reservations department, you never know who you’re talking with, be very selective with your words, as well as the tone of your voice.
