“Average country restaurant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2011

Average, country type menu - mostly local customers. OK food if you are in the neighborhood, but not a destination restaurant. Wait staff was fine.

“Unpretentious, inexpensive good food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2011

We stopped here after a day at Antietam, on our way to Shepherdstown (and didn't know about all the dining options there), and Red Byrd had an advertisement in an Antietam brochure. Simple tables and chairs, so you come to this place for good food, prompt service and low cost. My wife had a barbecue sandwhich platter, I had a crabcake sandwhich platter, we shared a side of corn fritters and a dessert of caramel apple pie. It was served promptly, each item was very good, and the cost - well, I'd say it was a real value.

“It's All Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2011

Touring the Antietam battlefield can work up an appetite and we couldn't seem to find a neighborhood, family style place to chow down. Sharpsburg didn't offer much choice and driving all the way back to Shepardstown to try and find a place among all the college-focused eateries didn't appeal. Luckily found The Red Byrd just a bit east of the Fry house museum (part of Antietam NBP) on the same road. Menu is pretty extensive, well beyond burgers and chicken fingers (home style, comfort food), and reasonably priced for a family. Service was very good and very friendly. This isn't a "destination" or special occasion restaurant. Atmosphere was nothing fancy but clean, welcoming and uncrowded. All major credit cards. Satisfied, we continued on to the National Museum of Civil War medicine in Fredericksburg.
