“Needs new beds!”

If your business is sleeping, wouldn't you invest in beds that induce a good night's sleep? I appreciated the fact that the room was clean.
Yet I am always amazed that hotels use substandard beds and bedding when truly that is the most important feature to provide comfort to their guests. If you cannot sleep on a hard bed, or with cheap foam pillows, which are rock hard- this is not the hotel for you.
If you can tolerate a hard bed, this is a good place for a night or two.
Clean rooms, nice staff and good food in the bar.

Headed out to the area for a business meeting and this hotel was the closest and most convenient. We were checked in quickly and the rooms were extremely nice. The facility is very clean and the front desk personnel were outstanding. They seemed to go one step beyond what was expected or even anticpated. The excersize room was well equipped, pool area nicely maintained and lobby restaurant had a really nice menu. There is even a dedicated computer system set up for advance check-in on all airlines and printing your boarding passes in advance. I would recommend this hotel for families, couples & business trips. Nice place, I would definitely stay here again. And if you are into Geocaching, there are several caches in the area that you could even walk to if you have the time!

“It could be so much more”

Baltimore Marriott Hunt Valley Inn

My wife and I stayed here for a convention in February. The staff was very pleasant, including some that were positively outstanding. It is a shame that they decided to put in new carpeting that does not match well with the architecture, but honestly a carpet is a carpet. The bar area is very nice, but the restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. There are very limited menu selections - and that includes the buffet! There is also a small cafe area, but again that has limited selections and hours. The hotel has a good location and an interesting layout, but if you're looking for more than just a room, it's probably best to keep looking.

“We're staying across the street next year...”

We have attended an annual convention at the Hunt Valley Inn for the past three years (Fri-Sun) and are finally throwing in the towel with this hotel. The front desk is apathetic and unable to accommodate even the most simple requests. They made billing mistakes and mistakes with our reservation, suggesting that we were mistaken in each instance before recognizing that they had in fact made the error. I realize that the one-star rating may seem harsh, but we've stayed at this hotel every year for three years, and it is the same thing. We are always frustrated, and we are always paying too much for what should be a stress-free experience.

Next year we will try out the Embassy Suites across the street.

“Good but not outstanding”

The Marriott Baltimore Hunt Valley is a nice, full-service hotel in a convenient location. I've stayed here many nights for business, and found there to be many positives, usually offset by some sort of limitation on the service. Prime examples:

- Friendly staff, but messed up my hotel bill on 5 different occasions in a span of 10 weeks (does this mean they mess up 50% of the time?). Resolving these issues required several calls to the national Marriott office and several phone calls to my company's expense office explaining why there were incorrect charges on my corporate card.

- On-site indoor/outdoor pool and fitness room, but the fitness center was very small for the size of the hotel, and the machines are positioned awkwardly so that you are looking someone directly in the face the whole time you're working out.

- Free breakfast, but only in the concierge lounge, which is limited to those who have paid the concierge rate, or to Gold/Platinum members. Even if you do have access to this, the food was mediocre, and has been going downhill as of late. The hotel restaurant is expensive and not good.

A few other items to note:
- Parking is free, but you cannot usually park near your room (everyone parks near the entrances, and even if you get a spot by one of the entrances, there's no guarantee your room will be anywhere near an entrance).
- The hotel is in a safe, upscale neighborhood, right across the street from the Hunt Valley Towne Centre, which has tons of shops and restaurants.
- The light rail to Baltimore is right across the street (easily walkable, as there are sidewalks/walk signals), but make sure you know the schedule and when the last train leaves (especially on Sundays, when it stops running ridiculously early), lest you be stranded in Baltimore (not the greatest place to be stranded at night).

Overall, the Hunt Valley Marriott is a great place to stay if you can get a good rate (much easier to drive to and park than any of the hotels in Baltimore city, and you can take the light rail from the hotel). Sure, there are plenty of amenities, but don't expect too much out of them; just stay here for the price/location.
