My first review to tripadvisor, though I have used the site often. I just left the Super8 Havre de Grace this morning, and will be filling out a very positive guest comment card to send into the main office. I only wish that I had remembered to bring my digital camera so that I could attach some photos. Perhaps in two weeks, when I will be returning.
I have stayed here perhaps a dozen times over the past three years. Admittedly, I did in jest previously term this place the "Not so Super 8" but no more. This is the only pet-friendly motel I know of in the immediate area. I have a boat slipped nearby but when it is out of the water I need to stay somewhere close that allows dogs. You could go up to Aberdeen but anyone who takes pets is probably full. Thus I really have no choice, not that I would want one anymore.
Previous comments were seen as valid until my recent return. What a difference a year makes. My ground floor room appeared recently renovated. It was spotless; I stayed an extra night just because it felt so comfortable and because I really love the two restaurants that bracket the building (one is Zagat rated). The high-speed internet worked flawlessly throughout my stay and allowed me the convenience of staying that extra day. The cable had more channels than a Hilton I recently stayed in, if TV is your thing.
The ground floor back door problem (see previous guest comment) has been solved. This WAS a security risk plus leaving it open allowed cold air to permeate the ground floor. Also, the smoking rooms are near the once always open door so cigarette smoke found its way underneath your door at the far end and made for an uncomfortable stay.
If you stay with a dog, you want to stay on the ground floor. That always open with a rock back door is NOW a security lock door (you need your key card) plus there is a buffer door inside. Good job, Super 8! You can still pick up the cigarette smoke but it is nowhere near as bad.
Keep in mind that what with limited places to stay in the area other than bed&breakfast inns, you are going to get contractors or some transient sales groups passing through. I have seen this here more than once but never had a problem. The motel employees always have a smile and will fulfill any request. The coffee pot and orange juice was always full in the morning and the breakfast bar area was spotless.
This is an older building, but I believe management is doing the best they can with it. That's why I was so impressed this week; if you think about it--what with them being the only game in town so to speak--they could let this place get rundown and still book rooms. They're not doing this.
For the money (I do use AAA) and the location, I don't see how you can go wrong with staying here.
