“A rare find and a must stop”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2012

Making our way back to Chicago from the outer banks was a challenge but we started early and got off the beaten path (95) in an effort to beat the horrible traffic. At about 2pm after searching the better part of an hour for food, we happened upon the Potomac River Grill. We could have stopped in Sulfur springs but it was fair parade day and we passed through there in the nick of time not to get stopped for an extended delay. This little joint was surprisingly clean and inviting and was quite busy for such a late lunch hour. We order a pork platter, a cheeseburger, Caesar salad and a big bowl of Mac N Cheese for the four of us and we feasted well. Everything was cooked perfectly, the Mac n cheese was creamy and classic, the burger was moist, meaty and well topped and the salad was exceptionally fresh, perfect. The BBQ was right on the money and the sauces were great and all down home like. Everything was clearly homemade with lots of effort cooked in. Service was very good and attentive and a fries re-order was put through in a very short time frame. This is a great place to stop and a great place to go out of your way for. Add it to your list….

“Great for lunch/dinner, not so good for breakfast”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2012

I have reviewed the Potomac River Grill back when it first opened but I wanted to go back and re-review it because now I've had more of their food and they have started serving breakfast since I first went. I have been 2 additional times since my first review, once for dinner and once for breakfast. The lunch/dinner food continues to be the best food in Hancock and for that I am happy. I was really disappointed by their breakfast though.

All the breakfast food we had was not so good. I think the issue is probably that they are using the same grill/griddle for breakfast that they use for lunch and dinner. If they are, then they are not cleaning it well enough because tastes from foods are clearly bleeding into other foods.

The hash browns looked more gray than brown. They were oily and tasteless. My wife had an omelet and it was overstuffed but the ingredients weren't really cooked through. It tasted bland as well. I think its great that they are serving breakfast but they have figure out how to bring the breakfast food up to the same quality level as their lunch/dinner food.

I would not recommend or return here for breakfast but I still give Potomac River Grill a strong endorsement for lunch and dinner meals.

“Great food, great service.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

Have been there a few times. Love the beef! Especially the ciabatta bread it is served on. Sweet potato fries are excellent. Have had the pulled pork, the pulled chicken and the burgers too. Husband loves the potato salad and slaw. Will definitely go there again. Very clean and the service is excellent. Going to try that pineapple upside down cake next time!

“Great food, prices and portions! Real food.”

Pulled chicken slider was yum. You add whatever sauce you like. Mac n cheese was smooth and creamy. Burger was angus and freshly ground. Slaw was fresh. Pineapple upside down was great!

“Love that mile high pit beef!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2012

Upon visiting this location we were at first wishing for more choices on the menu. We settled for the pit beef sandwich and it was amazing. The BBQ sauce is delicious and you can add as much or as little as you want. The fries are really good, but do not come with the sandwiches. Get one order for the table to share , as they give you a huge portion. Great stop that you can easily walk up to while enjoying the C&O canal or Western Maryland Rail Trail. Good food, clean place and great service too. Go try it out!
