“A Lucky Find...........”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2009

We travel frequently between NY and N Carolina and like to vary the route. We rely on those Red or Green Discount motel magazine offered at the Visitors Center. Our main criteria is price. Nothing fancy because we are in transit, nothing too cheap because of the pitfalls of such. This ComfortSuites strikes the perfect balance. Larger rooms with sofa and coffee table, swim pool, jacuzzi, gym and the included breakfast. The trick?.... their lowest rate is currently available to walk-ins only, no reservations

It seems that every hotel is calling itself a suite hotel these days, even when the rooms are really just one big room. This is a pet peeve of mine because when I'm traveling with my young kids or on business, I really want two rooms. In this case, it was fine for us because we were just using this for an overnight stay during a long trip. However, I have no clue why they called this a suite hotel - our room was no bigger than an average hotel room, and there was not even a table or separate seating area. There was a refrigerator, but many hotels offer these nowadays.

That said, this was a decent chain hotel. Everything is clean and newly remodeled - so new, in fact, that there was still a paint smell, so if you have allergies to that sort of thing, avoid this hotel for a while. There are a few wierd oversights, such as the fact that our shower had no soap dish or ledge, so we had to put our soap on the floor.

The staff was very efficient. We arrived late and there was a line of people ahead of us without reservations - it seems this was the last hotel to have rooms left in town. I groaned inwardly when I saw the one person working the desk, but he managed to get everyone processed very quickly, and I was out of there in less than 10 minutes. The desk staff in the morning managed to check people out and monitor the food situation in the breakfast area, all with a cheerful demeanor. They were also helpful with directions.

The breakfast was decent for a free breakfast, and the breakfast eating area is pleasant and sunny.

A previous reviewer felt that the hotel was not in a good neighborhood. I'm wondering if we are reviewing the same place. (There is also a Comfort Inn in Hagerstown, although I don't know where it is.) The hotel is up the road a piece from the cute downtown area that is getting restored, but it certainly seemed plenty safe, if not aesthetically pleasing. It is a typically divided highway area with stores, restaurants and lots of parking lots. We did pass a tatoo parlor nearby - maybe this was the problem?

The hotel was ok. The room was clean, but the hotel is dated. The pool area is small and not the greatest for little kids. The pool area was out of towls. The building had a strange smell to it and was being remodelled. The breakfast was not that great. The area of town it was in was not that great. It was a rough looking area.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for choosing Comfort Suites for your recent stay in our area.

Thank you for giving us a review, it is very much appreciated. Upon receipt of your review, the following steps were taken:

• Pool staff was approached about making the pool area better for little kids. They also received extra training in making sure that there are a sufficient amount of towels available.

• Breakfast staff received additional training in presenting a proper breakfast.

I hope that the next time you visit our area, you will once again choose to stay at Comfort Suites. We take our reviews seriously, and I think you will be greatly pleased.

Sincerely,
Hotel Manager.

Was visiting family for the holidays and needed a place to rest. The Comfort Inn was clean, quiet and inexpensive. The hotel has an indoor pool and hot tub which was a treat. The continental breakfast was nice, and the hotel staff were friendly and business-like.

  • Liked — Inexpensive and clean

I must first congratulate the staff of the Comfort Suites in Hagerstown. I came to this beautiful town with my family during vacation. The hotel had all the amenities you could possibly ask for. It was within driving distance of historical civil war landmarks. I am actually a very tough critic when it comes to hotels, so when I say this is good I mean it.

This was the second time we stayed at this particular hotel and found it just as comfortable the second time as the first. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Our room was clean and spaceous with a king sized bed and 2 comfy upholstered rockers. The bathroom was roomy and well stocked with towels and basic toiletries. The morning buffet had a wide assortment of breakfast items. Fruit was fresh and the waffle station was frequently monitored and cleaned. The location of the hotel is central to so many area attractions. The staff was very helpful with travelling directions. We have dear friends in the area that we visit often. We will definately stay here again. The area is just beautiful.

When we checked in, we were greeted by a receptionist who remembered us, even though we hadn't been there in a year. We found that there had been a number of upgrades made to the property. it's very attractive and modern now.
It's a great place to stay if you're in the area.
