“Great Stay, Work Completed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2005

Just returned from the Gaitherburg Hilton.

My wife and I enjoyed the stay very much. The renovation work has been completed, and the rooms and lobby are very attractive and in great condition. The service was also very good.

We booked on Price Line for a low price. The room was not large, but for the price we paid, it was a real bargain.

The Hotel is about a 10 minute drive from the Shady Grove Metro stop, so it is conveniently located for sighseeing.

We would definitely stay here again, if we could get the room for a low rate.

I'm a visitor from Germany (sorry for some typing mistakes) and found the hotel in a very nice shape. All work (mentioned in some other reviews) are done and everything is nice and clean. I found a good gym room with pool and spa, as well as a good bar (serving excellent Margarita).
My room 7th floor was one of the best I ever had new furniture and nice paintings on the wall.
All in one: I can highly recommend this hotel at a reasonable price.

First, I want to take full responsibility for not reading the reviews before this trip. I booked with Hilton and was not informed about the renovations. The reception area has been relocated to a closet behind the hotel where the conference area is located. You walk by some pretty smelly garbage unless you can find a spot next to the door. Parking was definitely an issue, especially since the Montgomery County Fair was going on across the street. We drove around for 45 min before going in to ask the staff where to park. This was only an issue from say 6-10PM. They said it "happens every year" during the fair. If it is a known issue, how hard would it be to have an emp stand by the entrance with a clipboard and register and ask if you were staying or which wedding you were attending?
After checking in, went to our room. The third floor hall rugs were absolutely disgusting. Large dark stains over most, not some, of the hallway.
The saving grace was a nice, comfortable bed, as a previous poster has mentioned. Probably the only reason we stayed. Did not have to worry about mildew in the bathroom grout, because there was none. Basically looks like our room was part way through remodeling or somebody forgot to finish. In between the tiles was just space down to the wall board.
When we stepped out of one of the three elevators, we had to step over broken up tile that they were replacing. Later there was a cone - I guess somebody complained or got hurt. I understand that they are renovating but it should not impact the customers to this extent if they remain open. If we had any mobility issues we would not have been able to get out of that elevator at the main lobby level.
We certainly met some nice friendly employees I don't think it's their fault that we had such a bad experience.

This Hilton was undergoing a remodel when I stayed, and was only 50% done. I stayed in a newly done room on the 10th floor. The room was nicely done, much like all the newer Hilton rooms. The lobby and bar/dinning area were not done, and it showed. Most of the parking spaces are taken over by a constuction area, so parking was limited, or you could park in the ToysRUs parking lot. This was a priceline hotel for $50, so well worth the money.

I stayed here at a difficult time for the staff and the front desk staff was wonderful. The hotel was under renovation. There were huge bus tours and weddings going on. My family was in town for one night for a funeral. They could not have been nicer and more available to help us than if this were a five-star hotel. The place was a wreck but they were terrific. Thanks to all of them.

I don't understand why this hotel has been getting bad reviews. Maybe they were pre-renovation stays. I found the Hilton Gaithersburg to be an extremely pleasant hotel that is in the last stages of a full renovation (the lobby and main floor areas are still being redone).

The room I had was very well appointed and perfectly clean. It was the standard two double bed room on the 3rd floor. The beds were the new, pillow topped variety and exceptionally comfortable. The furniture was maybe a few years old but good looking and in good condition. The bathroom had a new, full width pink and gray granite top and the ceramic tile in the tub/shower area and floor also had been recently replaced. I didn't get to try the pool but it looked good and from other reviews it sounds as if it is very nice.

Good location, just off hwy 270 in a safe area about 20 miles north of DC. I found the service to be both professional and courteous. I would rate this hotel a strong 3 star maybe 4 stars when all the remodeling is finished.

I got the Hilton Washington North in Gaithersburg, MD on a priceline bid for $55 a night. For the price, a great deal. The room was clean, the bed comfortable. The lobby and public areas were under renovation and closed and the restaurant was temporary in one of the meeting room. Once this is finished...
