“Just Ok, Needs updating and showing some age.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

Just got back from a soccer weekend from this hotel. Overall, I would put in the average category since I don't think it reaches the very good rating. Compared to newer, suite oriented hotels, this one is showing its age. No real lobby or area to get out of your room for an early coffee. The dining area is roped off until they serve breakfast and once that is done, its very hectic, at least, on weekends. Basically just a coach immediately in front of the door. The wifi didn't work and when I informed the front desk clerk he acknowledged that another occupant had the same complaint and then gave me a 1 800 number to call. Like I'm going to fix the hotel's IT issues?
The Rooms were tight. My wife and I were with 2 of our children and it felt very cramped with the two doubles. Carpets felt kind of damp. Beds were hard and springy. Loud air conditioner. Had a faint smell of smoking close to the curtains although this was non smoking room. Typical average hotel stuff. Bathroom was nondescript with the toiled flushing very slowly. Wallpaper was tired and peeling in certain area's, room safe didn't work but I didn't bother asking about it. No noticeable noise issues, but again the AC was very loud. Parking was very tight with it very difficult to maneuver a large vehicle. The location was fine with it being close to 270. Our soccer team picked this hotel which is why we stayed. For the money in this area, it isn't bad and I can't say any one thing was a major issue. Just have stayed at much nicer, newer hotels for the same price.

Minutes away from the metro. There is shuttle service to the metro if you so desire. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Dunkin' Donuts right next door if you opt out of the breakfast provided on site! Easy access to and from the Interstate.

The Comfort Inn Shady Grove is first rate. At a very reasonable rate (for the DC area) it provides luxury rooms, full breakfast, shuttle service to the Metro station, and overall friendly service to customers. We will always stay there when we visit the DC area.

Room Tip: We prefer the corner suites on a high floor.

This hotel certainly beats paying $150 and up at some of the bigger name brands in the DC area and as others have pointed out, the accommodations are a little more luxurious than you would expect. I was very pleased with the cleanliness, location, and customer service.

The only downside is that the wireless internet was very slow and seemed to have trouble staying connected. I do hope that they will upgrade their internet service in the future.

This was a step up from the usual Comfort Inn. We were passing through the area on our way home from a wedding in NC. Based on the reviews, we stayed here. The hotel was very clean, quiet and the free breakfast offered more choices than usual. The bedding wasn't the level of an upscale brand, but we'd didn't pay the price of an upscale hotel either. Again we got a good rate through the Choice hotels website as they offer AAA , Senior and other discounts. Make sure you have a print out of your confirmation (anywhere) as a couple at the desk seemed to be having a problem about the room & rate. Parking is free.

We selected this hotel based on reviews and location. We were not disappointed. Check in/out was excellent and the front desk most accommodating. There was ample staff for everything. The room was immaculate and went a step above what was expected. The little touches were really appreciated. The breakfast area was spacious and the fare met the standard. The close proximity to the Metro was one of our criteria. Easy to get to and no problems with parking.

We encountered two negatives with this stay. The first has to do with access. There is really only one primary way in, but if you find the back way, it makes it much easier. The parking lot is also fairly cramped. The second has to do with the WiFi. During our stay, they experienced difficulties and had the technicians working on it. When it was supposedly fixed, it was still wonky and you would be knocked off. It was almost as if there was a limit on the number that could be connected at any one time. When it worked, it was good.

Would definitely recommend this location for anyone visiting DC.

Dear Guest,

Clean and comfortable! Good breakfast, great price and close to family I was visiting. Downs: The wireless internet went down on me once, cleaning service skipped my room for a day or 2, and the air conditioner had an odd smell when I came in ..but otherwise all three nights were restful and great for me.
