“Washingtonian Center/Rio”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

This is basically an outside mall area, with shops and restaurants of various sorts, a small lake with paddleboats available, and a multiplex theater. There are at least 2 hotels associated with it or at least nearby, and it is a nice feature/attraction for the hotel guests. The theater has bargain tickets for shows before noon. Other than those features, it really doesn't have anything remarkable to offer, although all of what is there is nice. There is fairly ample free parking.

“Very successful retail/entertainment center”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Ever since Washingtonian Center (Rio) opened, it's been a large attraction for area residents and out of town guests. The Rio Cinemas (18) are always crowded as are the restaurants, bars, big box retail and specialty shops. While there's been some turnover in retail and food tenants, for the most part, Rio has been very successful. The lake that accompanies the property has pedal boats and ducks during the summer as well as outdoor concerts and places for outdoor dining. This would have gotten 5 stars but it's so crowded and parking, even with two multi-level decks, can be tough on weekends.
We'll see how Rio stands up to the new mixed use development under construction now called Crown.

“Food and a Movie / Some Shopping”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

There is a good variety of restaurants in this Mall area, and a decent movie theater multiplex. Add to this a number of retail stores, and this is a pretty nice location to visit. I would not visit this mall for a major shopping excursion (unless you know the stores you want are here), there a number of nearby malls that would be better (Montgomery Mall comes to mind). Also keep in mind that the restaurants can get quite busy on the weekends (particularly if the weather is nice), so be prepared to wait if you hit one of the popular restaurants (like Uncle Julios or Copper Canyon).

A note on parking, the parking garage near the center (between the lake bridge and the movie theater) can be a little bit a nightmare for parking (everything seems to be a little smaller in this garage). I would use the parking garage to the right of the movie theater, or the garages by the walking Mall (left of the lake).
