“Nice Hotel, Convenient Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013

Picked up a cheap night at the Courtyard from a name your price deal. Was very happy with the overall experience. Room was very clean and bed was comfortable. Bathroom had no issues, and plenty of space to move around. Definite plus was the free WiFi in the rooms. Hotel offers a buffet breakfast for $13.00. From what I could tell, that's the only breakfast within walking distance. I tried to go over to Potbelly's sandwich shop, but they do not open until 11am.

So, if your up early, you may need to drive around to find something or do the buffet. Parking is across the street in the parking garage and they do have some reserved spots. There wasn't many people in the hotel when I stayed, so I did not hear a thing and can't comment on room noise.

Hotel is located along a nice boardwalk that surrounds a pond. nice place to go out for a walk in the evening or early morning. Overall location was very convenient to both Washington DC and western Maryland. Washington center mall is a great place to spend some time and pick up any forgotten items.

If you're not a business traveler who swims, or a family traveling with kids, feel free to ignore this—it's a nice hotel in a great area.
For the rest of you, even though this is an *indoor* pool, after Labor Day, it's only open during the weekend. I know, because my 4- and 8-year-old daughters and I were kicked out 2 minutes after walking into the pool area by a staff member (possibly a manager?). We'd been talking with the kids for a week prior to going, so finding out (on a rainy day) we couldn't go swimming was a bummer. Literally made my littlest one cry. Good times.

Otherwise, property is fine, lot of good shopping and restaurants nearby, a big movie theater across the street, little mini-river walk w/ paddle boats, etc.

Breakfast is a bit pricey at $14/person for the buffet ($8 for kids), but dining room service was good. As others have said, walls were on the thin side, so you can hear everyone's business.

I stayed this week at the Courtyard by Marriott in Gaithersburg. The property is located on a lake and part of the Washingtonian Center, therefore in an excellent location. The lobby is simple but inviting and front desk staff greet each guest as they enter the door.

The rooms are typical Courtyard style rooms. The beds are very comfortable and the air conditioning works perfectly. The desk work area has many recepticles and plenty of space for working. There is a sofa and the closet has not attached hangers. The bathroom is OK but the shampoos and soaps are quite tiny. Also the towels are small and thin (although not old). The walls are a little thin and I could hear people in the next room.

The breakfast buffet is ample and $14. Many typical choices are offered and they also have an omelet station. I had to ask several times to get coffee and no refills were offered. The place turns into a small bar in the evenings but with comfortable sofas is a nice place to enjoy a drink with a colleague. There is also a little store off the lobby with snacks and drinks.

Overall, an average to good hotel in an excellent area surrounded by the lake and shops and restaurants.

Room Tip: Try to get an end room

My stay was just fine, but I've been trying to get a copy of my folio for THREE WEEKS. I have had to call them four times and leave four messages. The front desk is useless. Don't expect much in the way of service here.

This hotel sits next to a little lake and shipping area, so there are lots of places you can walk to to get a bite to eat. There is a path around the lake and it is a very pleasant place to stroll, people smile and are happy. As for the hotel, they failed to put the receipt under the door, and you have to ask for the free breakfast or they will charge you. The breakfast buffet is nice, has waffles, eggs, fresh fruit, yogurt, etc. coffee is just so-so but you can go across the street and get Starbucks if you want. The fitness room is pretty spartan, just one weight bench with a few free weights, three treadmills and an elliptical. No machines. They also have a pool but I didn't use that. When I was there were free Zumba classes on Tues nights by the lake that looked quite fun.

My family and I wanted a quick weekend getaway and decided to book here on a whim. Are we ever glad we did!

The check-in was fast and and friendly. The young lady who greeted us at the front desk (Brittany) was very polite, professional and helpful. (Courtyard management - do everything you can to keep her!) We were in an and out of the hotel several times and Brittany never failed to greet us or any of the other guests who passed by.

All of the public areas of the hotel were clean, clean, clean. None of us noticed any of the little cosmetic things that can easily put someone off from wanting to stay at a property (e.g. dirty carpets, outdated decor, etc.).

Parking was complimentary and across the street from the hotel. Once we parked, we had absolutely no reason to to move the car until it was time to leave.

I always check the bathroom as soon as I enter a room and it was spotless. The toiletries provided were Paul Mitchell bath and facial soap as well as shampoo and conditioner. Bring your own lotion, mouthwash and shower caps!

The room itself (we stayed in a king suite with sofa bed) was very quiet, smelled fresh and was thoroughly cleaned. Housekeeping did a great job during the time we were there. I don't know if the floors were vacuumed/mopped each day but it seemed that way.

We made use of the pool which is small but very well maintained. (The pool's depth is 3' at the shallow end and 4'6" at the deepest point.) Each time we went to swim, there was a lifeguard on duty who we saw testing the PH levels of the swimming pool and whirlpool. I found that very reassuring. The temperatures for each were great and none of us left with our eyes burning from the chlorine.

We did have breakfast on-site and all thought it was very good. As other posters have mentioned, it is not free. It is a little on the expensive side but we figured we were paying for convenience. We all had fresh omelets but there were many other items available (oatmeal, fresh fruit/yogurt, waffles, biscuits/gravy, scrambled eggs, sausage/bacon, cold cereals and various breads and muffin). No one walked away hungry or unsatisfied.

The location is excellent and very family friendly. The hotel sits on a boardwalk around a man-made lake and is within walking distance to a lot of restaurants and stores.

For the kids, there's a small train that has a stop right outside the hotel and will take you on a short (ten minute) trip around the immediate area. There is also a playground (with rubber mulch and not those awful wood chips) about a ten minute walk away.

Pros: Staff, location, free internet, parking, coffee/tea in the lobby (evenings after 5:30 PM).

Cons: None, really.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a fridge and microwave. There is no food service on-site other than the breakfas...

This was a last minute stay for us as we had booked residence inn but upon arrival it appeared to be in terrible shape. The courtyard was very clean and accomodating. The parking is in the garage so there is some walking involved. There is a Starbucks directly across the street and Corner Bakery a bit further. The location is the best part of the hotel.
