“Clean and comfortable, but very LOUD AC”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2013

I stayed at SpringHill Suites Gaithersburg for three nights during my business trip to the area. My room was clean and bed was comfortable. But the AC was loud, very LOUD! Other than that, everything was fine as an average hotel for business travelers - nothing fancy, but sufficient, including average breakfast, complimentary wi fi/internet in the room, a small fridge, and a microwave. Walking distance to shopping and great restaurants. I am not sure if I want to stay there again simply because of the loud AC.

Thanks for your review! We are happy to hear that you found our hotel clean and comfortable. Our guests always enjoy the Rio Washingtonian Center shops and wide restaurant selection. We apologize for the loud AC units, the hotel is currently in the process of replacing each sleeve to reduce noise. We hope to see you again next time you visit the area,

Nice, basic suite hotel adjacent to Washingtonian Center. Rooms can be a bit small for suites, but overall a good value. A second TV for the living area would be a good addition. Very good free hot breakfast. Pool and spa area is and great for kids. We used it as a base for touring the District by car, but metro stations are very close and I would recommend using metro.

This property was filled with rowdy kids and staffed with a really miserable desk clerk. She thought it was her job to deny us two double beds even though theynhadva room with that very characteristic. The breakfast is free and worth just that much. Really nasty buffet. I would never stay here again. Pay more and stay at the courtyard that's a few blocks away.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else for a good room

Day One: Stormy outside, television didn't work at about 5:30pm. Front desk simply said, "Oh that happens when it rains". My advice, switch to cable. Rain isn't an excuse for poor service at a hotel.

Day Two: Clear and hot outside, television didn't work at about 5:30pm. Front desk simply said, "That happens during a heat wave". ?????????????

I've never had this happen at a hotel.

We were in Maryland for a sports tournament about 15 minutes from this hotel. easy to access from highway but for our stay we could also navigate suburban streets for meals shopping and the sports complex. Ample dinner and shopping options at a mall/lifestyle center within less than half mile from hotel. Staff was very accommodating and helpful and even though lots of middle school athletes were in the hotel, it did not seem to be disruptive if I would have been a regular guest not with the large group. The staff seemed very familiar with handling large parties. They were extremely helpful in advance of the trip with modifying reservations due to schedule changes in our event. We booked through a third party and I would recommend working with spring hill reservations (800 number or this location either would be fine) because the other layer we had for a "group rate" seemed to be a weak link. Would definitely recommend this location.

The staff are all exceptional and try their best to solve the problems -- but there were problems in the first place: our door lock didn't work; cribs couldn't be set up. After fixing all the problems it was already 11pm and our kid got way over-tired.

Even with these problems fixed, we decided to leave next day for two other reasons: 1. the room is too small to be considered a suite -- we couldn't properly fit a crib in the living room area; 2. A/C fan is very noisy and right next to the bed -- I woke up everytime it turns on in the night.

There are three other hotels along the Washingtonian Blvd; they might be slightly more expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Finally, Maryland law requires life-guard on duty for a pool to be open. As a result, almost all hotels don't open their pool until 5 pm on weekdays.

Although this is called suites - the room was very cramped - bed area was large enough for the bed and two night tables. - the rest was small for sitting and working. And the bath area was a strange configertion. It was clean and comfortable. Interesting side note - older cell phones will not work in the building or in the parking lot.
