When it first opened several years ago, I dined at Basta Pasta in Fallston, MD almost monthly as it was a welcome addition to the Harford County restaurant scene and the food was fresh and original. Over the past year, I've noticed a decline to the likes of Bellissimo and the Double T Diner.
Basta Pasta in Fallston, MD is an Olive Garden 'style' restaurant with the unlimited salad and bread appetizers. But the similarities end there. The dining room at Basta Pasta has become tired and run down and the atmosphere is similar to a loud, crowded, brightly lit cafeteria (especially on the bar side). The wait staff is nothing but untrained college kids and the entrees are reruns of each other resulting in a large confusing menu and over-sized portions of flavorless food covered in cheese or cream sauce. The house carafe wines are horrible and the bottled wine "list" is weak at best. Average price per person with 1 drink, tax, tip (but no desert) is $35.
Having said that, the place is always packed on Saturday nights. But on closer review, you can see those patrons are all undiscriminating seniors who live close by and love the idea of taking home enough food for lunch the next day.
