“Fabulous start to finish”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2009

Had a delightful afternoon with delicious food and wonderful company. Service was nonintrusive and not rushed. Looking forward to returning soon and bringing friends and family to celebrate the holidays in a unique atmosphere.

“Overpriced and underwhelming”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2009

Our party of six made a reservation a month ahead of time for the $25 per person full English tea. We were required to provide our credit card information at that time.

We were told we would be seated in "The Library", which turned out to be lined floor to ceiling with commercial wall paper books! Apparently when not serving as a tea room, this location is a wallpaper business!

The food portions were beautifully presented, but laughably small for lunch. (We were at the 12:00 seating). To give you an example, the accompaniments to the scones (one per person limit), were approximately one teaspoon each of clotted cream, jam, and lemon curd - to serve 3 people. I am not exaggerating. The 4 "savories" portion size was one small bite each per person - OK for a taste. The "sweets" were not much more substantial. And don't ask for seconds of anything served. Our server had to "ask" if she could bring us 2 more scones, and informed us there would be an additional charge.

Most disappointing of all is that there was no opportunity to sample any of the many teas on the menu. Choose one, and that is it for you. On the menu was one iced green tea, served in a small carafe. We had to ask for glasses, and then ask for granulated sugar, as the small, hard, sugar balls only dissolve in hot tea. Hmm.

Most disappointing is that instead of graciousness, we found commercial efficiency. From 1:30 - 2:00 we received several reminders that they needed to set up for their 3:00 seating. We were literally rushed out by 2:15pm.

If all of the above is OK with you, then you may enjoy the lovely china service pieces and the overall decor of this small townhouse, which, except for the library of wallpaper books, was very attractive.

As for me and my party, we left disappointed, and hungry.

“The tea is ok, but...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2009

Far overpriced for what you get. Though they are open on certain days of the week as mentioned by a previous reviewer, the service was rather inept. On several occasions they failed to answer the telephone on a day that they were open. Second, the waitresses failed to be accommodating. Upon mentioning the lack of earl grey tea, the waitress suggested the next alternative and did not offer me the menu to allow me to make another choice.

Did I mention it was overpriced? A 3 part teir of appetizers for two costs fifty dollars. You won't have to worry about figuring out what to tip because they'll do this for you at their discretion. Though the restaurant has a nice atmosphere, the seating arrangements are less than private.

While all of the above might be subjective from person to person, the food was not. The sandwiches made me grimace. For the price I would expect more than a small piece of wonder bread heavily slathered with philly cream cheese and a slice of tomato. The curry chicken salad sandwich undermined the dignity of the croissant that they put it on. If you want more cream cheese, you can't go wrong with their third sandwich which makes use of wonderbread, cream cheese and a select choice of artichoke. Their scones are alright but nothing to write home about and I'm sure you'll be using the desserts to drown out the taste of the cream cheese.

“Show your friends how much you care about them!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2008

This is a very well kept secret, and the perfect place to take those friends who you love soooo much, and if your are tired of the lunch scene.
This is reminiscent of days gone by, peaceful, and quaint before voicemails, e-mails, and the technology buzz of today. Oh, yes, turn-off your cell phone for a really relaxing time!
