“Not Much of A Visitor Center”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2012

This place is tinny and not much of a visitors center like most visitor centers are like. At least you'll learn some history of Cumberland though. There are a lot more things to do in Cumberland than going to the visitors center. If you like riding bikes the C&O Canal or The Great Allegheny Passage.

“typical visitor center”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

Good history exhibits. Worth time, but do not need more than an hour. Staff had some knowledge of current status of C & O. If you are going on the C & O, ask them if there are any detours, advisories that are not on websites.

Stopped at the CVC on the way to Savage River Lodge. Were pleasantly surprised by the excellent exhibits and friendly staff.

“First stop in Cumberland, Maryland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2012

We were in Cumberland for the first time in many years. Of course we made our first stop the Cumberland Visitors Center. It is very clean and well presented. They have a nice museum on the C&O Canal and the people and boats that were a part of that time in Maryland history. Both of the centers information people knew the city of Cumberland and all of the sites to see in the area, including sites in West virginia.

We were very pleased with the center and its information hosts. If you are in Cumberland for a few hours or a few days, you must stop in and see this wonderful "Center" and its hosts.
