The Hideaway is a new restaurant that opened recently in Genesee Park, just off I-70 at exit 254. Their motto is "comfort food without ethnic boundaries." The atmosphere is both upscale and cozy, but not formal. I visited for the first time with a group of four (two couples). When we arrived at about 5:30 on Thursday night for dinner the restaurant was virtually empty, but during our meal almost every table in the place was occupied.
Happy hour is every day between 2-7 PM, with several excellent wine and beer options at reasonable prices plus some of their most popular and fun appetizer choices discounted. The dinner menu is varied and eclectic including several varieties of comfort food and traditional favorites as well as a few intriguing ethnic choices. The appetizer selections we made were quesadillas and crab bites, both of which were delicious. To illustrate the variety on the menu, for our entrees we had firecracker sushi (prepared fresh on site and served during happy hour times), spice-rubbed steak served with a delectible chimichurri sauce accompanied by roasted brussels sprouts, mussels (not on the menu but served upon request) and a traditional juicy cheeseburger with hand-cut fries. There are just enough entree choices to please everyone's taste, and keep you interested in planning a return visit, but not so many that making a selection is overwhelming. Dessert options were equally intriguing and varied ( I had some crispy banana egg rolls with chocolate dipping sauce). The service was hospitable/friendly as you might expect in a "local" restaurant that is not chain owned. I recommend this restaurant for families, couples, business or friendly dining. The brunch menu also looks interesting, and there is an outdoor patio that should be fun during the warmer weather months.
Check out other reviews that can be found on yelp. There is terrific potential for this to be a successful restaurant destination for people who may live in the Evergreen area or in the foothills outside of Denver, as well as Denver residents who wouldn't mind a quick and close out-of-town getaway. Drive time from downtown Denver is only about 20 minutes, and in addition to some great dining the views at Genesee are excellent. I happen to be local to Genesee, and because this restaurant made a very good first impression I plan to continue supporting this place. You should too!
