This hotel saved me from the La Quinta Inn in Jessup, MD (see my April 28, 2007 review of that hotel). Usually these Extended Stay type hotels close down at night, but I was extremely lucky in that the sole staffer on duty answered the phone and said I could spend the night. I am incredibly thankful to him and to the hotel overall for that.

Overall, this place was fine. There is a grocery store not too far away which is good for stocking up. There's a fridge, stove, microwave -- full works. The rooms are spacious. The windows open for fresh air, which is essential. The beds were comfortable, and the hotel was quiet. It’s quiet convenient to I-95.

The rooms are a bit run down -- they have a little of the feeling of moving into somebody else’s apartment after they just moved out. In a typical apartment, you can hang up your own artwork, and clean it out, and after awhile it begins to feel and smell like home. But for two days here, it never quite reached the point. Not a big deal…

Overall, I was pleased to find this place and would likely stay there again. Just wish it was a little cheaper. Particularly for two beds, not just 1 queen size bed.

We spent a week (May 2003) at the Studio Plus on Gateway Drive in Columbia, Maryland. It was good value for the price. Ask for a weekly rate, if available. Its virtues:polite service, quiet area, outstanding lighting for reading and other needs, comfortable layout, a real kitchen. The only negatives: the bed was a bit soft, and the carpeting throughout the hotel needed to be replaced. Overall, though, we highly recommend it.
