On the plus side, this hotel offers free, functional internet access, has a very friendly staff (every one of the 5-6 people I dealt with was friendly and capable), and is in a good location (there are restaurants, shops, and a grocery store within walking distance). On the minus side, it is undergoing refurbishment, things are poorly designed, and the cleaning was subpar. The first item isn't too distressing, since all hotels have to do this. However, it can negatively impact your stay: the water was shut off at times, the stair treads are torn up, and there were some chemical smells. I was more inconvenienced by the lack of a cupboard in which to store my clothes (there were two clothes racks with hangers, but no useable drawers or cupboards), no hand towel rack, and the shallowest toilet I have ever used (use your imagination to figure out how that might cause trouble). The fitness room was ok, with 4 machines but NO towels or water....so people get sweaty and touch the machines but then can't wipe them down. Another example of poor design is that the hotel curb is fairly high and doesn't have a luggage or wheelchair-friendly ramp. Worse, the room had not been well cleaned: there was a partly-used shampoo container on the counter, soap packaging on the floor, an old room key under the bed, the silverware had spots and bits of unknown material on it, and the top bathroom drawer was full of little hairs (like from an electric shaver). The bed was comfortable enough, and it was an ok place to stay for a few nights, but I think there are plenty of reasons why the price is lower than other nearby options.
