“THE REAL ROACH MOTEL”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013 via mobile

I have been a Choice member since the beginning of time and I am shocked that this hotel is a participant in that program or is allowed to be. There are no shortage of ugly descriptions that are appropriate and factual that.belong to this dump. Filthy bug infested rooms - sleezy, scary characters hanging around the property. A staff and manager who don't care and frankly feed the problem. This hotel should be closed.

The pictures and advertising are in no way accurate or legitimate. Shame on Choice for allowing faithful members to be placed at risk and in such squalor. Shame.

Half expected to see hourly rates offered on a neon sign.

Yuck.........Makes my skin crawl just thinking about this place.

This is by far the worst hotel in the world. And what's completely astonishing is that the hotel staff and management know it. Rooms are outdated, filthy and in desperate need of renovation, repair or gutting. There are smells throughout the facility.
There is also a suspect clientele in the hotel constantly. Lock your cars and barricade your doors. The back of the building is a hangout for undesirables and they mill about throughout. Came down with our family for event at UMD - big mistake this place. Staff is bizarre, lazy and a huge part of the problem.

Breakfast was disgusting as is the so called pool.

Be careful with your credit card. We were victimized. Made an extensive report to Choice Hotels and learned of extensive history of problems. Plenty of good hotels in area - this is most definitely not one of them. Not suitable for families or women traveling alone.

Very uncomfortable atmosphere and there are legitimate security concerns.

I bring a large group of students here on an annual basis. The hotel does a great job of meeting all of our unique needs which vary year to year depending on the make up of the group. They open the kitchen extra early to feed us a hot breakfast so that we can get our day underway. The "fundome" area is ideal for our students to enjoy the pool, as well as shuffleboard, a putting green, pool table and just socialize before lights out. We have been using this hotel for at least the last 15 years!

Room Tip: If you are not traveling with a group ask if there is one at the hotel and then request a room that...

I chose this hotel based on how close it was to the National Archives but was very disappointed. The hotel is old and in need of major renovations! The rooms are noisy and small. Some staff members were nice while others gave me the impression that I was bothering them.

This place is a dump. The rooms are filthy, the staff are just weird and not helpful. Don't be fooled by the advertisement of pool and jacuzzi. The manager keeps it closed so you are paying only to look at it. There are plenty of nice hotels around here, don't be fooled by the false advertising and photos. I have never turned down a free breakfast but this one was inedible.

Dear Guest :
I am sorry that we could not live upto your expectiations. We strive for satisfaction for all our guests. I am sure that if you were disattisfied with your stay or room we could have corrected that for you. The pool is on winter hours with clearly posted hours at the pool gate. The county requires us to have a lifeguard present during the time that a pool is open. Otherwise i would be more than glad to let you use a facility that is already present in the hotel.
We have an eloborate coplimentary continental breakfast with eggs, waffles, yogurt, fresh fruit and juices with the donuts, muffins , breads and cereal. Starting in feburary you will be also be able to purchase made to order breakfast at all Clarion Hotels. I will review your report with my staff so that we make sure that all guests leave satisfied.
Sincerely
Bobby Shah

This inn is the best in the area and is located in a good spot. Everything is close by, next time I am In Maryland I will stay here again. Breakfast was ok. Pool was great. Restaurant has good selection but tables were dirty and floor was super sticky

This place has an amazing karaoke bar on Thursday nights! A large variety of songs to choose from and great people! I've been going for the karaoke nights for a while now and I always have a great time! It's never too crowded which is great. The atmosphere is relaxed and there is free parking right in the compound! Definitely a must-do activity in College Park atleast once!
