“Good foor, good beer, great stay over.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

Stayed for one night on business and will stay there again if I get the chance. I agree with the recent comments about this hotel and restaurant. The welcome was good, the food was really good and the rooms comfortable. It was the food made the visit memorable though. Best breakfast I have ever had. The sausages were so firm and tasty. None of your cheap and cheerful about this. All from a local butcher. Black puddings, mushrooms and free range egg and the thickly cut home made bread toast. all brings a new meaning to a 'full English breakfast'!

Stay here and you won't be disappointed unless you don't like friendly, informal, relaxed atmosphere, good food and 'guest' beers and a good nights sleep followed by an amazing breakfast. Then you might be disappointed in which case I suggest you try a Travel Lodge!

I had the pleasure of staying at the White Hart for four nights at the beginning of March. The staff are super friendly and helpful, the food is great, and the atmosphere is just what you want from an English country pub. I don't know much about English prices, so can't really compare, but I found the prices to be quite modest for what you get.

My room was comfortable and clean and very nicely furnished. The room was immaculately cleaned and tidied each day, which probably wasn't really necessary, but it was still nice to come back to at the end the day. Top marks for the room staff!

I'm trying to think of a criticism and finding it hard to think of anything. Okay, I think the cottage pie wasn't as delicious as my mother's, but I'm not sure that's an objective opinion. And I could smell the kitchen from the car park, which made me hungry. That'd be my harshest criticism.

All in all, I can wholeheartedly recommend the White Hart as a lovely place to stay, and a great place to eat.

I went to this pub with my elderly grandmother. There is convenient disabled parking and a level path into the pub. The chef was clearly passionate about his food, and was proud to invite people into his kitchn to show the fresh fish he had in. I had the belly pork which was brilliant. The food was presented to a very high standard and tasted excellent. The waiter was very helpful throughout the meal and dealt well with my difficult grandmother! Highly recommend.

We hadn't been to the White Hart for many years even though we are fairly local, put off by it's previous incarnation but had heard it was under new ownership and completely refurbished. Decided to give it a try on a cold Thursday evening. We weren't disappointed, the outside has been given a makeover with new patios and gardens. Openning the door we were greeted by 2 logs fires making it feel warm and welcoming. Another transformation, all floorboards and fresh paint, The staff were very good and explained the fish was landed from Brixham day boats and had just arrived. We both had the Sea Bass which was excellently cooked and presented followed by Chocolate Fondant made to order and British Cheeses. During the meal the chef came out to have a chat and told us he had only been at the place for 6 weeks, he is clearly very enthusiastic and knows the providence of all the food, particularly the fish.
The pub also has 8 rooms for bed and breakfast. We will definitely return to to White Hart and recommend it to friends.

Being regular lunch guests at this pub we know the food just keeps getting better and more varied. Darren, the chef, is passionate about his cooking and the end product is simply stunning. We would recommend this pub/restaurant to anyone who enjoys good, well cooked food, served by helpful and friendly staff.
Fish friday tip: Scallops, lemon sole, finished off with lardy cake with butterscotch sauce for dessert- (simply superb today 15/03/2013).

Room Tip: Only live few miles away(don't need to stay night) so can't comment on rooms.

Having made 3 previous visits to the White Hart since the current owner took over and having been very disappointed each time we heard there was yet another 'new chef' so we decided to give it another go.. very pleased we did! The American lady in charge of front of house was extremely efficient and friendly on our arrival, we were seated in window seat in the bar, the menu looked very interesting and we ordered brocolli pear and stilton soup to start - really lovely and served with a very cute (and tasty) mini farmhouse loaf. One of our party then had the vegetarian risotto which was very tasty and the additional chips she ordered were superb. The other two members of our party had roast beef and roast chicken both very good and the beef cooked exactly as I requested and even came with a portion of crackling I had asked for! The vegetables were also very enjoyable - the only thing I would have liked in addition would have been roast parsnips. the chocolate mousse for pudding was also good.
Well done White Hart - keep up the good work!

I am unable to comment on the hotel side of The White Hart as I only live a couple of miles down the road, so in a way it could be termed "my local". .
However, we have now had several meals there and enjoyed each one, the fish chips and peas are excellent, beautifully served, very well presented upon the plate. Very tasty, good value for money . . The sausages and mash, Fantastic . . The fish pie, scrumptious.
During the meal the chef came to the table to make sure we were enjoying our meal and was very enthusiastic about his food and cooking.
Use it as a pub and it has a nice atmosphere, friendly staff, good selection of beers. . . Best of all it has Sky Sport on the TV !!! Yahoo!! . . But this does not dominate the room as it is located in an area tucked away to one side of the bar . . . . . Sssshhhhhh . . Don't tell everyone, it will become too popular!!, . .

What a super review! Thank you. We are just finalising the new menu now – some new country inn “classics” for you to try, alongside the ones you have already enjoyed, and our table d’hote signature dishes, as well as glorious puddings – and Chef is in the kitchen preparing it. See you soon!
