“A firm favourite on the decline.....?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

The Crooked Billet has been a firm favourite for birthdays and anniversaries for a few years now. We visited on Friday night and were met with the usual warm welcome and the cosy atmosphere was as pleasant as ever. However, having placed our order we were somewhat dismayed when the four starters were immediately produced from the kitchen, certainly not freshly made to order and whilst they tasted OK, weren't up to the usual standard we've enjoyed in the past. The main courses were again OK but all of them were far too heavily salted and the meat was a little tough. None of this would have been a problem if we were eating at any old country pub, but The Crooked Billet has always been better than that and the menu is priced to reflect that quality and finesse. A friend also made similar comments regarding a recent lunchtime visit. Hopefully this is just a blip and normal, fabulous food will be back on the menu soon, would be a shame if this hidden gem loses its shine.

“Consistently good”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

I've been coming here for years and it's always a pleasure. The ambience is fabulous, with a great intimate feel, tucked away down a tiny country road. Paul Clerehugh is an inventive and dynamic chef and the menu constantly changes, with lots of delicious choice. The live music nights are great fun too. It can be expensive, but the lunchtime set menus are fantastic value.Recommend!

“Lovely pub, good atmosphere, great food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

We went here as we love the London Street Brasserie in Reading.
It is an identical menu just a different setting. Some things are a little pricey but I would rather pay a little more for quality well cooked food.

“Great food and great evening”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2013

A group of 8 went to the CB to celebrate my cousin's birthday.

Great food and great service.

We ate in the main restaurant with lovely linen and great atmosphere. My only concern was that there was a lot on what are quite small tables resulting in us having a small fire incident with a candle and a napkin.

Went to the CB some years ago and it was as good as then.

Hopefully will return when we are in the area.

Quite expensive. Not everyone had starters and very few had dessert. We only had two bottles of wine and tap water yet the bill came to over £45 per head. I am used to Guernsey eating out prices but this surprised even me.
