Located in a Chevy Chase neighborhood in a big old building with great parking, by the way. Inside, the fireplace is grand and the lighting is perfect, with a wonderful ambiance and diners seated all over the place. The host and waitstaff are very nice, working hard. It is a well managed affair and it moves along quite nicely. Buzzing, but relaxed.
For our foursome, we ended up ordering all different dishes... all tasty and cooked nicely. The onion soup was standard and the snails came is sort of a mixed up dish. The chicken, beef, pork and fish entrees were hot, tasty and saucy. Fresh. The desserts disappointed; the apple tart was not good, but the cheese plate was okay, the chocolate moussey thing was kind of messed up. The wine list was okay and not bad value actually. We got 2 bottles of St. Emilon for $75 and $56 respectively and they were great. Couple of other things:
Bathrooms were clean, the water glasses were clean, the wait staff tidy and friendly. We had Amilcar as a server - great guy. The average age of the diners was maybe 60+, so not a happening place for younger people. they had piano player doing standy tunes; good.
This is a firm bet for a nice meal. I recommend it. It was really well pulled together; not gourmet elegant, but a hot plate of food with some french wine in lovely atmosphere.
Restaurant week prices, with wine - $330 with wine.
