Impeccable service. Delicious food. Wonderful atmosphere. There isn't much more you can ask for but the value for the price is not bad either. The steaks are simply delicious here. The entrees and appetizers come with nice varieties and are excellently executed. Do your self and order a souffle early, they are to die for and come with several options (chocolate is my favorite). The atmosphere of a french country house is spot on with a live piano player most nights to add that special romantic element. This is a great restaurant for a special occasion or romantic night out. Service is absolutely wonderful and the meals are memorable.

After 20 years we're still regularly going back to La Ferme. It isn't just memories; it's consistently good food and service for all that time. I've eaten at restaurants all over the world and I've never felt more comfortable and well served than at La Ferme. The restaurant is in a beautiful old country house in downtown Chevy Chase. The wonderful atrium has beautiful porcelain statues of roosters and geese, great paintings, tables with generous spacing, and a great pianist who will play any tune you ask for. Over the past two decades the food has had an occasional up and down, but right now it's outstanding. Service is very good and prices are reasonable for the quality. A recent meal included a trio of salmon preparations (smoked, tartar, and terrine), a very flavorful oyster stew, shrimp with an excellent risotto, and beautiful done sweatbreads in a pastry crust. The food isn't super inventive, just very well done and well presented, classic French with some modern twists. The bar pours a very good martini and the wine list is well chosen with some good choices in the under $30 range. Desserts include classics like creme brulee and souffles, all very well done. The place has some real history; just check out the picture of Eleanor Roosevelt lunching with a local women's group. The restaurant was first a girl's school in the 1920's and then became the Brook Farm Restaurant in the 1930's. It's recently been beautifully renovated. If I want a comfortable and excellent dining experience I go to La Ferme.

My wife and I have always enjoyed good food and pleasant experiences here. Usually try to go on Monday nights, when there is live music. A nice place to celebrate special occasions.

Perhaps it was because it was a Tuesday night in August with a lot of people away but eating at La Ferme never rose to the heights we expected, having looked at the menu and the prices.

The waiter who seemed to be the senior of the group went through the motions but there was no welcome or style and he had a habit of forgetting what had been requested of him.

Some of the dishes were OK, others relied on presentation rather than good ingredients and taste, and a lot of asparagus appeared in the dishes, way out of season, which seems to say they are not really serious about presenting fresh food.

There is a large wine list and there are some good values if you search for them.

All in all not one we will be rushing back to - a pity because it is so well-placed to get local business from discriminating people who can afford to pay their prices.
