My wife and I just spent two very relaxing and pleasant nights at Great Oak Manor. This is the first time we stayed at a B & B for quite some time and we both agreed we want to stay at Select Registry B & B's whenever we have an opportunity going forward.
If you want to go to a place that is peaceful, tranquil, away from the busy urban scene, this is the place to go. It is the perfect jump off point to explore the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
November starts the slower season and we had colder but otherwise pleasant weather. The fall colors were in full display. The owners, John and Cassandra are very knowledgeable and helpful. They serve a fine breakfast including fresh baked muffins that are the best I have ever had. John cooks up a great omelette. The service was excellent in every respect.
They offer coffee and tea at 3pm and port or sherry after dinner - both nice touches.
We loved our room which had a nice view out over the grounds and a fireplace. Since they were not full, they offered us a choice of several rooms and we chose this one because it was more spacious and comfortable.
This place has it all. The Manor is a very large magnificent looking house with several places downstairs to lounge including a nice screened in porch. The Manor has a historic feel and the rooms are furnished with antiques and collectibles. The grounds are manicured lawns that the pictures on the website do not fully depict. The lawns go right down to the Cheasapeake Bay, so this place is waterfront. I enjoyed looking out over the bay with my binoculars and in the evenings enjoyed walking the grounds while I smoked a cigar.
One of our highlights is when you come in on the road leading to the place, there are several areas where the geese gather in ponds and dormant fields. We saw a huge flock of snow geese that was a genuine joy to behold!
We will definitely return as we come east for a conference about this time each year. Next trip we want to explore Annapolis, but believe staying at Great Oak Manor is more peaceful and not that far a drive. Besides, the best seafood in the region is right there along the Eastern Shore.
If I can be of any help, I will be more than happy to answer questions you might have about Great Oak Manor.
