The Bayard House is a charming restaurant located in historic Chesapeake City, which is open year round. The view of the waterfront is extraordinary from the large second floor window-framed dining area. The inner rooms are also quite attractive, but not as breathtaking. However, the outside patio on the first floor with additional inside dining is perfect for viewing the many boating activities, including major shipping vessels.
We have eaten there on many occasions, bringing friends and family to this special location. The wait staff is extremely friendly and always willing to answer the many questions about the city and the waterfront.
They always start with a selection of breads and crackers with a yummy, yet mild herb spread. Their soups are excellent, as are their salads. For lunch, I especially enjoy the Pear and Walnut salad with baby spinach. Their hamburgers are delicious and served exactly as ordered. The sweet potatoes fries are freshly made, and not greasy. The Cajun prime rib sandwich special, served with fries and coleslaw was so very tasty. However, it was so large that half had to be taken home. Their crab soups and crap cake dinners are also exceptional.
The dessert selections are exceptional and I highly recommend the chocolate mousse in a dark chocolate cup and lots of whipped cream.
Chesapeake City is an enchanting riverfront historic town with lots of shops and homes. It is a great place to spend an afternoon or evening. You can always find parking, and there are many events and activities year round that make this a fun and enjoyable place to visit.
