It was a weekday and lunch time, I chose this restaurant out of the 3 Asian restaurants in the immediate area of the strip mall. The first on was too hardcore Asian and the other was mainly a carryout with the McDonalds atmosphere ( hard floors, limited seating, and generally noisy). The Hunan Taste was pretty much empty, only a couple of friends at a table in the front. I was promptly seated and the drink order was taken, hot tea. It arrived in a small tea pot, I noticed a very light color when pouring and the delicate scent of Jasmine, this was a pleasant treat. As a previous visitor noticed, the menu was a little confusing. Lunch prices are in green, dinner in red and scattered throughout the hard cover book-like menu. The lunch dish-Chicken with mixed vegetables-comes with steamed rice, I also ordered Wonton Soup. This is more traditional Chinese, the broth had a noticeable gingerroot flavor, there were vegetables in as well, the actual wontons were not the ones you find at the Americanized Chinese restaurants, they were much softer and thinly wrapped. It was really good once I got used to it. The atmosphere was nice, quiet, and tastefully decorated. Service, fresh food, and prices were all good. The entire meal was under $10 before the tip.
