“Nice hotel for business, worked for leisure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2012

We stayed at this property March 30th for our recent trip to DC. It was a bit out of the way, but was quite a good deal less expensive than the other hotels downtown. We found the rooms to be immaculate, the common areas very nice, and the Sunday buffet to be adequate. We were originally told that it was a 5 minute walk to the subway station - that was exaggerated! Luckily the hotel offers a shuttle service that takes you the ten minute drive to the station. I would definitely stay here again.

I recently stayed at Marriott Bethesda and had an enjoyable stay. Since I am a government traveller, it included breakfast and free overnight parking. Also, as a Marriott gold member, the person I was traveling with had access to the concierage level on the 15th floor and could bring me in with her. Very nice perk. They had coffee/tea/soda/water out at all times. In the evening they had heavy appretizers (could be a meal) with salad, cheeses, small meat kabobs, and desserts (cookies/brownies). In the morning they had a nice breakfast spread which included eggs, bacon/sausage, toast, oatmeal, cereals, fruit, and yogurt. I ate dinner in the restaurant during my stay and it was very nice. The wait staff was very accommodating. I had seen a sandwich on the online menu and couldn't find it on the dinner menu. She said it was probably on the lunch menu and found it for me and let me order this. Food was very good as well. I did use the hot tub while I was there (pool/hot tub was pretty much empty except for the life guard), but I didn't get a chance to see the workout facility. Hotel is conveniently located off 495, so if you need a place to stay in the area, I would recommend this hotel. But if you want to be able to walk to other restaurants, you may want to check out the hotels in downtown Bethesda.

I was booked at the Pooks Hill Marriott for a conference being held at the hotel. It is one of several Marriotts in Bethesda, and is a bit more remote to downtown but close to NIH. Upon arrival, the hotel and grounds smelled horribly, perhaps due to the recent landscaping at the property. Despite my requests on the reservation, I was given a room on the first floor adjacent to the ice machine and across from one of the conference rooms and next to a staff break room. It was dark, noisy and smelly. The hotel staff did change my room to one on the 3rd floor. This one overlooked the parking lot and garbage bins. The room was nothing special, and had absolutely no amenities of note except a flat screen TV (is that novel any more?). It was quite noisy, both from guests running up and down the hall but also from outside - metro, garbage, cars. There was also an AC unit that made such an awful noise that the housekeeper called maintenance she was so scared. Unfotunately, after being told "yes, we know what that is and will fix it centrally", they never did.

Food was actually better than average, gym was fine, staff were nice.

Need to shuttle everywhere or use taxis, which gets old and expensive.

Room Tip: Book a different hotel. Marriott on Democracy Blvd. is closer and is next to corporate headquarters...

We stayed at this property March 18, 2012...and have stayed there on numerous occasions. Upon checkin found out they had closed the gift shop which had the Starbucks in it and had moved it to basically a closet. Ate dinner there Sunday night. My husband had the pork loin and he said it was excellent. I asked for a club sandwich but only two pieces of bread and the chef accommodated my request.
Rooms are spacious and I loved the Bath and Body Works shampoo and conditioner.
Disappointed that the restaurant was not open when we left at 6:15am to even get a cup of coffee!! Otherwise it's a good hotel and close to nice restaurants in Bethesda and the closest to NIH. Definitely we will stay there again in June.

I went for a business trip in March 2012. This location was within minutes of all Washington DC attractions and still far enough away to avoid most of the hustle and bustle of Washington. The hotel is very well maintained and very clean. The restaurant at this hotel also has a decent menu and all of the employees ate very friendly and helpful

My wife and I stayed at the hotel due to treatment at the National Health Institute. Although the staff was nice the room heating problem was never solved. You don't have control over what temperature you would like your room to be. Two different "engineers", or hotel maintenance guys came up to check to see if their was a problem. Their answer was nothing is wrong the outside temperature is not really cold enough to have the heat turn on. What the hell!?! I have never stayed at a hotel whether it be a inexpensive one, or a higher end place where you did not have control over you heat in your own room! Was this an error in the building of the original HVAC system? It seems this is a serious flaw, one that needs some attention.
