“GREAT METRO ACCESS”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2012

Great location. Access to Metro and many restaurants within walking distance.Hotel is dated but clean and useful as a business place to sleep. I have been there before and nothing wrong if the price is right.

I managed to get a good rate on this hotel via hotwire ... 75 per, over the fourth of July weekend. Figured I scored a great deal.

Not so much. To say the hotel is far from dc attractions would be an understatement. It's about 10 metro stops (using two lines) to get there from the national mall area. And forget about a cab. It's a $40 fare. Renting a car will cost you too (at least 12 bucks a day to self park at the hotel garage.)

Still, if you are willing to make the haul to save a buck, it's an ok place. The rooms are decent and the beds are comfy. But there are flaws almost impossible to overlook, like the poor and moldy grouting in the bathtub, the dark red carpeting and the London-like tv reception - of the 20 or so stations that worked, none were digital or hd and only a handful could be viewed with no snow. It was really bad. The hotel interior is inferior, with with its early 80s-style outdated main courtyard. There's a pool but it's minuscule; there's a gift shop but it's way overpriced.

And while a lot can be forgiven - the area does have some hip restaurants a few blocks away and a metro stop below (if you don't mind getting on the second longest escalator in the western hemisphere) - the one thing that can't be tolerated is a less-than-helpful front desk staff. We had to fight to get double beds in our room, despite twice being told by staff we would have them (the girl outright lied to us and said we don't have any left. After I asked to see a manager, she miraculously found one ten seconds later).

To me, you get what you pay for. For an extra 20 bucks per night you can stay downtown in a hotel that is better and closer to everything.

I was there for 9 days for a conference. As so many others have noted, it is showing it's wear and needs a renovation. However the location is good being directly at the Bethesda Metro stop (red line).

The staff was pleasant. The only one glitch was I had a small package sent to me. Rather than deliver it to my room, it sat in their mail room until I called and inquired about it.

Ate often from Daily Grill, which also provides the room service. Everything was good but a bit pricey.

The bed was pretty comfortable.

The health club and pool were fine,

The breakfast area had many ala carte items and decent coffee.

Internet prices too high! One of my pet peeves. Two levels--basic and "premium."

Wall Street Journal was delivered most days--but not all.

Always appreciate an in-room coffee maker. This one was fine.

My smartphone data service was NOT blocked as another reviewer noted.

The free bus--Bethesda Circulator stops right at the bus area.

I checked in this hotel to do on-site inspection for a client. I was appalled at the sight of the room condition. The room was very dusty. The bathroom walls & woodwork needed serious plastering. Upon request the Manager was very nice in honoring my request with a larger room at the same price, however the conditions were basically the same. The carpet was stained. Your smartphone web service was blocked by the hotel which forced you to use their service for a fee. I have stayed at this same hotel several years ago which was in much better condition. It needs to be renovated.

I agree with the prior reviews. The biggest positive is the great location and friendly front desk staff.

But the room itself is very average, and not worth the premium charge for staying. I was here on a business trip, and there are hardly any power outlets that I could see to use my phone charger or my laptop. I had to pull out the lamp' s power to free up the outlet, and take turns when my laptop battery died.

The TV is supposed to be High Definition with HDMI capability. But the image quality is the worst I have seen in any TV in recent years. I decided I will watch a movie on TV. Bought a rental, but then the TV signal died. I called front desk who were nice enough to offer me 2 movie rentals free of charge! But the point is there is no signal on TV!!! The tech guy came in and blamed it on "Lodgenet" which they use for movie rentals. So I decided to go out for a night walk instead.

I have stayed at several Hyatts around the world. I think the room I stayed at the Hyatt Bethesda is definitely not worth the high rate I paid.

Apart from the convenient location, there is nothing else to recommend. Either the rooms need to be renovated, or the room rates need to drop significantly

Stayed at the Hyatt Regency Bethesda for 3 nights while attending U Maryland graduation in May. Got the room through Priceline at a fraction of the price the College Park hotels were charging. The Hyatt has been our hotel of choice for years. Best location, excellent customer service, spacious and clean rooms, free newspapers, and nice fitness center/pool (including complimentary head phones and fresh fruit). Initially there was an issue with the first room assigned to us (actually not an issue – we wanted a king bed instead of two doubles). I called the front desk and the rep came up to our room and walked us to our new upgraded room on the concierge level. Walking distance to great restaurants, shopping, and metro. In regards to parking, if you’re staying on the weekend you can save money and park at the municipal garage (3 minute walk), which is free on weekends beginning 10:00 pm Friday night until 7:00am Monday morning. The restaurants at the Hyatt are excellent with great food and service. I also recommend Tastee Diner for breakfast (5 minute walk). While this hotel is rated a 3 and ½ star, we received 5 star service and accomodations. This was our 15th stay at the Bethesda Hyatt and, and I highly recommend it as the best place to stay while visiting the DC metro area.

The Hyatt Regency Bethesda was disappointing! The room were outdated and in need of repair! The AC vent cover was detached for the the wall, the bathroom sink had sunk in which a glaring gap between the sink and the counter top! Even the bathrooms by the meeting rooms needed a lot of work. They not only had a foul smell but they also odd ceiling tiles, leaks that were being contained by pipes coming out from the dropped ceiling! Overall, I was very disappointed with hotel.

On the flip-side, the staff here was amazing! They were very responsive, professional, friendly and prompt! That included the staff at the front desk, at room service, guest relations (concierge) and house-keeping (one of the best cleaning I had seen in a very long time).
