“Spacious but needs some pzazz”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2011

I have stayed at quite a few Marriotts in my time, mainly for business, and I generally like the chain. I was told that this particular hotel is in some ways a flagship, since it is located at Marriott's headquarters complex. It is a fairly typical cookie cutter Marriott, but the rooms are extra spacious, consisting of a good size living room, with a small wet bar, which is separated from the bedroom by French doors. My room did not have a mini-fridge mentioned in other review. The room was clean and everything worked. Somehow, however, it looked tired. Maybe it was the color scheme - yellows and beiges with red here and there. It seemed to lack the crisp fresh atmosphere characteristic of modern hotel rooms. The bed was, as usual for Marriott, very comfortable. There was only wired internet, curious for a business hotel these days. The same rather tired feeling applied to the rest of the hotel. There was nothing really specific, just a general feeling that it needed a breath of fresh air. This was not true of the staff, who were all very friendly, helpful and energetic. The food was average and lacked some of the visual appeal that I have seen at other hotels in this chain. I would go back, but it would be nice to see the owners bring this particular hotel up to the standard of the best in their chain.

We got a good weekend deal, with free breakfast. The buffet breakfast food was mediocre, but the service staff were wonderful. The suite was very comfortable, with a king bed and pull-out couch and 2 TVs. The couch was unexpectedly firm and comfortable. Room was very clean and it has a mini-fridge. (A microwave would have been a plus.)
Our kids like swimming so we went to the pool. The indoor pool was very small; so if there were more than 2 families there, it felt crowded. We tried using the outdoor pool, but the water was REALLY cold. It would be nice if it's heated.
There is nothing within walkable distance, but the Westfield Montgomery Mall is only 2 turns away. There are also a few strip-mall with restaurants around. DC and the Zoo were only 20 mins drive away. We enjoyed our stay.
It's relatively quiet and very comfortable.

Was here for a few days work trip. Nice hotel, clean and attentive staff. Annoying that the internet in the lobby, conference area and sometimes in the room wasn't available. As long as that is cleaned up...no problems.

Great stay, nice pool, rooms and fabulous staff. Held business meeting there, they bent over backwards to make sure everything went perfectly. I will definetly stay there again.

Nice hotel, clean well furnished. The only oddity was that there was no WIFI. Quick check in. Would stay here again.

Excellent hotel with great room design with separate sitting and desk area.
Be aware that parking spots in deck are very narrow, seemingly designed to promote dings in the car's side.

We stayed at this hotel to be near Washington as well as the Air and Space Museum at Dulles. The location is very close to the I-495 Beltway as well as Old Georgetown Ave, which can get you to the center of Bethesda in under 10 minutes without getting on a highway. There are a lot of fabulous restaurants in the city center.

With Marriott's International Headquarters only a few buildings away, the staff at this Marriott site stays on their toes. The building is clean and attractive. The suite rooms are big and have an unusual layout that breaks the monotony of most hotel rooms. There is a good sized desk for working as well as a nice sitting room with wet bar. The bed was comfortable and the HVAC system is the best that I've encountered in a decade. It was a QUIET internal system that distributes evenly and kept its cool even when it was 104F outside!

The breakfast buffet is a notch above what one typically finds today although the restaurant is a little small, creating a bit of a wait for tables in the morning. Food was good to very good. Staff was attentive and moved quick.

We had no problems with billing upon departure. There were no phantom or hidden charges on the bill. The correct amount was charged to the credit card. An email receipt was also provided.

Parking is in an attached building connected to the hotel by an enclosed walkway. The pool is an inside/outside layout that is fun to use. The fitness center is small but well thought out and has a good variety of workout options. Better than most.

My only peeve is that WIFI is only available in the lobby, bar and cafe areas. Guest rooms only have a high speed wired connection, which is great if you have a laptop but is of no help for smartphones and tablets. You'll find lots of people with laptops at the bar and lobby in the evening.

Room Tip: Marriott is very good about accomodating room needs listed on their online reservation system.
