“Fourth Visit Was The Same”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2012

This was my fourth time staying at this hotel. My reasons for returning was that I received sufficient services at the best price in the area. I would feel confident staying here again, because my experience each time seems to match the previous. I know that I can anticipate a clean room that meets my needs. Plus, they offer the free internet and free breakfast.

This was the cheapest visit that I have ever paid for this hotel. I prepaid through Priceline and got an amazing deal. (Approximately $40-70/night less than they advertise on their website and at the front desk.) This made my visit an amazing bargain!!!

Being that I prepaid for the room this time, check in and out was extremely quick. In fact, the hotel did not even request a credit card for anything additional. The front desk was friendly and even willing to assist with a few questions and needs that I had.

While I found the front desk to always have good communication skills, I did have a conversation with a cleaning woman and honestly, I have no clue what she wanted. I had returned to my room mid-morning when they were doing their cleaning rounds and had only intended to stay a brief moment to grab something that I forgot. The cleaning woman stopped me in the hall to ask me a question. (I am guessing something with cleaning my room.) My answer was that yes, I would like someone to come in clean and I continued into my room. She then left the room that she was cleaning and entered my room behind me and asked something else. Again, I have no idea what exact information she was trying to obtain. But I told her that I would be gone in five minutes and she returned to finish the room that she was working on. When I returned, the bed was made and I assume that she did a wipe down of the room. I can only assume that I answered her questions correctly.

The TV situation was similar to the previous visit in that there were a variety of channels to choose from. The TV did occasionally make a buzzing noise, but it was not too bad. The internet was still free (which many of the hotels in the area do not offer.) I had trouble accessing it my first night, but during the remainder of my stay it seemed to work fine. The temperature control system remained the same (the hotel is either being all cooled or all heated.) The heat was on this time and it was not the fastest system, but it did get the room to a satisfying temperature. However, it was a bit more loud than I preferred. Worse was that the neighbor's system was even more annoying.

The extra blanket mentioned in my previous post was there and available and much appreciated. I found the bed to be quite comfortable and I actually slept quite well every night. The hot water was plentiful, but still very slow.

I once again avoided their free parking and used the public garage behind the hotel. I had no issues with this.

Breakfast was similar to my previous visits. They did add breakfast sandwiches, which was an excellent touch in that one could easily take this to go. While the staff did keep the area clean and stocked, they did not really interact with anyone.

If I need to return to the area, I will likely consider the American Inn again. Being that I tend to stay at budget hotels, this has always been the best bargain in the area.

Room Tip: If you are able to prepay, do look at Priceline to see if you can get a better deal!

We found this hotel to be clean and reasonably convenient to downtown DC via Metro. It's advertised as only four blocks from the nearest station and that is true. However, they are four pretty long blocks. The lobby leaves a lot to be desired and I was assured by the manager that it's due for refurbishing. Fortunately, the rooms have already been redone. Our room was small but comfortable and quiet. Bed was good, TV worked fine, free WI-FI was fast, bathroom was new; plenty of hot water; desk staff friendly and helpful. So, all in all, for the very reasonable price I can only say we were quite satisfied.

First the bad: The website said they had a gym on site, they do not. They don't even have one off-site. There is A gym nearby you can pay to go to, or use the public bike/jogging path about a 1/4 mile away.

Parking is also rough, there is limited space at the hotel and extra nearby, but can be a hassle.
it's a 1/2 mile walk from the Metro (subway). It's not bad during the day if it's warm, but can be a bit scary if you don't like walking alone at night

The towels were small and thin, but standard budget hotel. We also requested a queen size bed/room but only got a full (though we were not charged for the queen size).

Now the good: great value, clean rooms, actually nice and helpful staff. Free breakfast in the morning was fresh and tasty. Taxi service was quick when we needed it.

We arrived well before check-in, and our room was not ready yet. This was our fault, but they offered us a different room (2 beds instead of 1) if we wanted to take it now with no price increase. We deferred and they held onto our luggage for the day. The room has a mini fridge (not stocked with over priced candy) so we could put our own food there. They also gave us a welcome bag with free metro passes, water, candy, etc.

It was a bit of a hike to the metro but I would absolutely stay here again, though I'd bring my own towel.

All the hotels in DC were more than $100 per night but just outside of DC in Bethesda MD we found this hotel online for $44 per night plus free breakfast. The room was tiny but big enough for me and my wife and a queen sized bed. A microwave is provided by the vending machines and our room had a small fridge with two free waters. We had an HDTV. Everything was clean and comfy. Soap, shampoo, conditioner and hair-dryer all provided. They encourage you to re-use your towels and bed sheets 3 days in a row to save the hotel money and save resources but you can get new towels and sheets everyday if you want. Parking was scarce but the front desk clued us to free parking behind a gas station across the street. They have Wifi and a free PC in the lobby. They also have an outdoor pool. I would normally expect to pay $70 to $80 for such a hotel so I was quite pleased.

Room Tip: Get to the free breakfast before 8 am to beat the rush!

I stayed here alone for three nights in early March of 2012. Free parking was limited but I was delighted to find a spot upon my arrival. I had no need to move the car until well after I checked out so this posed no problem for me. Check in was smooth, I was given a room on the second floor at the end of the hallway. The room was clean but on the small side. It contained a coffee maker and a small refrigerator as well. There was adequate room to hang my clothes up and a nice deep chest of drawers too. I sat at the desk and used the free and dependable wifi each evening of my stay. The television worked well and they have the Speed Channel which is a nice touch. I spent most of my time studying each evening so I didn't have the TV or the radio on often. The bathroom was clean and the water in the shower flowed strongly from the head and swiftly down the drain. The towels here are somewhat thin. The HVAC made little noise and worked efficiently. Their plumbing was a little noisy in the middle of the night, gurgling and flushing noises woke me up once or twice. A couple of heat pumps or air conditioning units were outside my window, those made a little noise as well. The bed and pillows were comfortable and I slept well during the majority of the time each evening. The free breakfast was more than adequate, make your own waffles were quite sought after and the breakfast room was a popular spot each morning. The hotel was a brisk fifteen minute walk to my classes each day. There are hundreds of restaurants within walking distance and a Mexican restaurant on-site. Convenience and liquor stores are just across the street.

I just needed somewhere to stay cheaply for a conference @ Dupont Circle. I found this hotel to be just fine for my needs. Free wifi. The room was decently sized, furniture well appointed. My room was quiet. a mini fridge for leftover food, coffee available in the morning. "Free Breakfast" but I just did coffee.
I just needed somewhere to sleep, and this hotel was just fine. the hotel was 5 blocks from the metro, which was a far walk with heavy luggage. Without luggage, the walk was a breeze. There were so many choices to eat around this area that it was a bit ridiculous. Guapos, the Mexican restaurant at the hotel was just great. I thought the staff was nice and check-in was quick. If you want to stay in a safe neighborhood and reasonably priced hotel and don't mind a 20 min commute into DC on the metro then this is a great place to stay!
