Overall a good meal, but slightly overrated. We started the night enjoying the fresh air outside on the patio at the bar. Nice selection of cocktails (the lemonade cocktail although very refreshing, the bartender admitted did not have homemade lemonade as the menu suggested). My mojito was creatively topped with a stick of rock candy.
Despite being quite busy, we were able to be seated promptly at our reservation time at 7:15pm
The wine list overall, was a nice selection with majority of markup about 50% (typical). Unfortunately our original selection which was highly rated by Wine Spectator and a great price, we were presented a different year (which the sommelier was unaware of until we pointed it out) then was on the menu. It was a lower rated wine but at the same price (not worth it). Initially she seemed annoyed by us making it clear that if our next choice was not the wine year listed on the menu, we needed to pick another selection.
The menu was fairly limited suggestions and majority of the entrees were a la carte making the overall price of a dinner entrée (with one side over $35 dollar). For an appetizer, we had the white bean and prosciutto bruschetta which was well done and a great share as there were 4 pieces for $11. Although we did not have, the raw bar looked very clean and seemed to be a great suggestion. For dinner, 2 of us had the duck breast, very disappointing. Both were ordered chef recommendation of medium rare. One plate came out clearly rare and the second plate just barely medium rare (almost rare). The beautiful fat had not been rendered out and was wasted having to be cut off. The pork chop was nicely done and a very nice portion size. The fish dish was a disappointing. It was ordered to be deboned (vs. whole fish). It was nicely seasoned but a very small portion. One of my bites was filled with 3 bones!
The side dishes were well done. Excellent corn bread and truffle mac and cheese. Whipped potatoes also great but lots of butter and the braised greens was actually sautéed spinach, very good just a little extra water in the dish
For desert we had the chocolate express tasting. Beautiful presentation, the espresso ice cream was a little soft and the mouse sweeter than expected but the cake was perfect.
Coming from NYC, this restaurant seemed a little overrated as mentioned before, but it seems for the area, it may be the better of the places to have a meal. Just expect to pay a higher price (again may be expected given the neighborhood)
