“Good but Too Fast!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

This was our first visit to Vino Volo - on a busy Saturday night. We had a "flight" of sparkling wines and ordered 2 small plates and 5 half plates (2 appetizers, a pizzeta, and 2 main course dishes). Before we had even finished the small plates, the other 5 dishes arrived. All but one were hot dishes - meant to be eaten and savored while warm. We had imagined leisuring our way through our various choices, perhaps with a glass of wine. With plates rapidly cooling (there was a cold draft across the table whenever the front door opened), we found ourselves setting a new record for dinner -- we were in and out in less than an hour! They have a nice wine selection, an entertaining concept, and attractive menu options, but they need to slow the pace -- and let the mood settle in. Culinary highs and lows: the penne with truffles was exceptional, pork tacos (small plates) were a bit dry.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

The newest addition to the Bethesda full house of eateries, Vino Volo took on a challenge. I've been to a few (as they are normally located in airports) and have enjoyed myself every time. What Vino has done here, though is nothing short of brilliant. They have a uncanny emphasis on the communal style of dining. Not only that but they encourage you to be fully involved in your menu choices, from wine tasting flights to picking and choosing a cheese and meat tray from a list of choices. Part wine shop and part wine school, Vino's atmosphere lends itself to an outside french wine cafe. Service we has was superb. Staff was very knowledgeable and patient as the menu takes a few minutes to navigate. All in all Vino Volo is the perfect place to grab a nice glass of wine after dinner, sit by the window with table candlelight; relax and reminisce. Bravo Vino Volo for choosing to branch out from aviation -you got a home run here.

“Happy Hour on Your Terms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012 via mobile

Vino Volo Wine Bar & Cafe boosts Bethesda's standing with wine aficionados. If you're a hotel guest, commuter or area resident trying to decided on a few afternoon or evening activities, here are two suggestions ---a foreign movie at Bethesda Row Cinema and a glass of wine.

At Vino Volo you can order a glass from your table or the bar and enjoy it with small plates of food. If you sit at the bar and you need help making selections from  the menu, Wendy can help you. Otherwise try the truffled popcorn, smoked salmon rolls or roasted chicken avocado salad.

You also have the option of scanning  the wine racks in Vino Volo's Wine Store to purchase a bottle to take with you. Before the movie or after the movie? You decide, it's happy hour on your terms.
