“Great Price and Convenient Location for a Basic Hotel in D.C. area.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2007

Got a great rate for weekend of may 18th of $107 per night, plus $12 parking per night, while other hotels in Bethesda/D.C. area were over $300 per night the same weekend.
Hotel was in a very nice and safe location. Room was clean, with decent bathroom, and bed was very comfortable.
The metro was only about 3-4 blocks away (Medical Center).
The other stop is about 6 blocks in other direction towards downtown.
No free breakfast. Did not try restaurant (sports bar) on the premises, so can't comment (didn't look like much of a "happening" place, however).
Overall, would probably stay there again because of price and it is convenient for parents of American University students.

“Just a notch up from Terrible”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2007

This hotel will be closing soon - hence the poor service and condition. (Condos on the way...)

Many updates needed, but don't look for anything to happen anytime soon. The staff was okay. The room smelled bad. No fitness room - albeit a pool that was closed. Slowest elevators on the the planet. Restaraunt was mediocre at best.

Price was on the lowside for D.C. area hotels. Remember the old adage...You get what you pay for.

Investigate some other options before staying here.

“An Enigma of a Place”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2007

Booked this hotel despite lukewarm reviews due to the good price compared to others in the area. The hotel is located about 1/2 mile from the center of Bethesda in a good location.

However, it obviously once was a Four Points by Sheraton (some of the signage in the hallways still say Sheraton) and they lease part of the 1st floor to Trillium a condo conversion/sales entity. There is a lot of non-hotel guest people around and the actual running of the hotel appears to be an afterthought. The front desk is tucked away in an area and a configuration that appears to be "temporary" or until the property becomes something else.

There is a restaurant on the premises but the menu is extremely limited (and some of the items on it aren't even available) so do not eat there. There are many other places to eat that are better in the area.

As echoed by others the hotel rooms are dingy and there are problems with old furniture and peeling wallpaper. There obviously has not been an upgrade here in some time.

Internet access requires a wire which they will loan you at the front desk.

I am a ChoicePrivileges member and did not receive a newspaper on any day of a 4 day stay. (Front desk says they only get 40 copies a day and they randomly place newspapers until they run out!)

I would not stay here again.

“Clarion not up to par”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2007

The good: The room was clean, but a bit run down, ie. loose wallpaper, drab decor. The bed was comfortable and some of the linens luxurious, but not the sheets particularly. The bathroom was clean, the towels substantial. Received a USA Today paper each weekday at our door. Staff was polite and helpful when needed. Public areas clean. Many varied restaurants within walking distance.
The bad: Hearing the elevator door "ding" all hours of day and night from room 206. Stiffling heat until we called front desk for help. Maintainance man said to keep thermostat turned to "off" and helped us open windows. They would only open a crack, which didn't help much. He said they cannot have heat and AC on in hotel at same time. Room was very small.
To park cheaper here: there is a pay garage around the corner on Woodmont where you can park a car yourself. It is about a 4-5 minute walk from hotel and much cheaper cost than hotel garage.
Since we were visiting our daughter who lives in a very close, but very small apartment, we only needed a place to sleep and shower. It was fine for that.

“Not bad at all”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2007

This hotel, being much cheaper than other hotels in the area, does have a few drawbacks. But overall is a fine place to stay if you want to save a few bucks.

The good:
Clean, comfortable bed, nice bathrooms.

The bad:
No indoor pool, no free breakfast, nearest Metro is about 6 blocks.

You decide:
The parking is 11 bucks a day - not as much as some, but not free either. It is about 6 blocks to the Metro - not bad with good weather, but a long way when it is cold or rainy. They have a breakfast buffet that costs $10 and is pretty good.
