We've stayed at the Bethesda Court twice, both times for several days. It's a great location, just a block from the Bethesda Metro if you cut through the back parking lot instead of walking all the way up to Wisconsin Ave. (in which case it's an extra block). There are numerous restaurants within easy walking distance, a few within a block of the hotel. Rooms are well laid out and have a fridge and microwave.
The hotel's extended weekend rates (which we have taken advantage of both times) are a superb value. We've followed the advice of other Trip Advisor reviewers and have requested a third floor king-bedded room with a shower/bath when making our reservation. We have never had a problem with the cleanliness of the room. The king size beds are very comfortable. The management and front desk staff have always been friendly, dispensing bottles of water and chocolates upon our arrival and whenever else we have asked for them. The housekeeping staff doesn't seem to speak English and I have never been able to communicate with them beyond putting the "please make up the room" sign.
The self-serve breakfast (there's no actual restaurant) is best suited to people on the go--toast your own bagels and breads, cold cereals, yogurt, juice, a wide variety of tea for tea-drinkers. When we want a more varied a hot breakfast we go out for it. The Bethesda Court is reasonable enough even without the on site breakfast. The complimentary limo is catch-as-catch-can. They were very nice about picking us up upon our arrival at the Bethesda Metro Station but the limo is not always available when you need it, even when you have reserved it in advance. Have a "Plan B" just in case. When
The only reason I am giving it a 4 instead of a 5 have to do with very minor things that have nothing to do with the room. The elevator is small and sometimes slow, but that's not a huge problem since there are only 3 floors to the hotel and if you are able bodied, in a hurry and have no luggage with you, you can easily use the stairs even if you are on the top floor. The hallways of the upper floors (especially the third floor, since heat rises) can be a bit warm in summer, but once you are in the room the air-conditioning works great. Shower caps are not provided among the bathroom amenities, and if you bring your own disposable shower cap, as I did, don't leave it hanging in the bathroom or it may be thrown out by the maid, as mine was.
All in all, we really like the Bethesda Court and consider it our "home away from home" in the Washington DC area. It's going to torn down sometime in the next year or two and rebuilt along with the neighboring buildings, but until then, I would highly recommend it, and hope we get back to it while it is still in its current incarnation.
