“Good food, strained service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012

We went to eat before taking in a play in a nearby theater. FW&C has an interesting beer and wine list and the food was quite good. I had the roasted beets appetizer (really excellent) and the lamb burger (also very tasty). But the service seemed a bit strained in an effort to be "friendly" and "knowledgeable." The kicker was that we found an excellent 2008 Malbec for $34 but the waiter tried to talk us out of it, suggesting we pay for another "10 times better" for "only" another $17. Nevertheless we ordered it. Then he came back and told us it was a printing error but we could have the 2011 for $34. Bait and switch or honest error? If the latter, the correct thing to do would have been to have the 2008 for the price listed. Good food, strained service.

“Love the beer flight options”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

Have enjoyed Food, Wine & Co a few times before movies. Although it has become very popular, the service is always excellent. Great beer selections and I particularly like the beer flight options- great way to try 4 new beers if you're a commitment phobe or want to try something new.

Soup always good and salads are fine. The cheese and meat board is a nice pairing for wine or as a snack.

“Pork Belly Sandwich!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

The pork belly sandwich and homemade chips are the best. This place has a good wine selection despite the stupid Montgomery county alcohol regulations. The place is a treat, not really for kids. Nice date night location that can be pricy. It is worth it, and the atmosphere is nice too.

“Tasty Food, Some Missteps by the Kitchen”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2012

We had an enjoyable meal at Food and Wine Company. Service was fast and attentive. We had very well poured martinis and the wine list had a nice variety with some reasonably priced choices in the $30-40 range. Our Catena Malbec was excellent. A dish of shrimp and grit fondue was wonderful to dip bread. Kampachi ceviche was a bit too mild for our taste. For the main course we ordered a soppressata pizza and a hangar steak with frites. Unfortunately the kitchen had a problem with the pizza and they chose to make another one, hurrying the process. This meant that the timing of cooking the steak was messed up. The net result was that we served a slightly undercooked pizza and a lukewarm steak. In spite of this the quality of the food and ingredients was excellent, so I decided to rate the restaurant as very good.

“late evening fun spot for good food, wine and conversation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

The two of us met here at about 9:30 on a Saturday night. While it was crowded, we took a couple of spots at a community table which was just fine. We shared a really good pizza and some suitable wine (I know, wine with pizza? But it was actually good). I liked the vibe of the place which had a great mix of customer demographics. We had a family of 4 with small children next to us and it worked out fine.

Service was on the fly, but if you were rushed, they could be flagged down without any problem.

If you are looking for a romantic candle-lit dinner spot...not so much. But if you want to have good food and a place where you can relax and talk, I recommend this place. Although it is close to the downtown hotels, I went with a local who frequents it often. So go.
