It's pretty hard to find authentic paella anywhere in our local area, but Guardado's is definitely one restaurant that fits the bill. It's best to call ahead and order it as it'll take 45 minutes to prepare from the time ordered. Although the 45 minutes can be sent drinking sangria and tasting their delicious tapas. I've been to Guardado's at least 10 times now both for lunch and dinner and it definitely ranks as one of Bethesda's best!!

My wife and I were very excited about eating at this restaurant because we love Spanish food. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were very promptly seated and ordered a glass of Malbec (which was the best thing on the menu). After we ordered and received the gambas al ajillo (which were better than most), we received our chorizo with manchego cheese on top. This chorizo tasted more like sausage, which a chorizo should not. After that we received our paella, which was desperately lacking in spices. In addition, the seafood tasted like it was old (overly fishy flavor-and I love seafood). The "icing on the cake" so to speak was the shrimp that still had its veins, which I would expect a restaurant to have already deveined. Normally we would have stayed for coffee and dessert, but this time we opted to leave after the main course. If you want a nice atmosphere and ok quality food, feel free to stop by Guardado's.

Looking for a casual, neighborhood spot? A small, family-run restaurant instead of one of the hip, crowded chains? Then try Guardado's. We felt welcomed into someone's home. The hostess and waitstaff were unfailingly polite and attentive. Our food was terrific. The paella is enough for 4 if you have a few tapas while you wait. Best sangria I have had in a long time. My wife and I are so glad to have found Guardados and plan to return with family and friends.

When ever we visit someplace new we always try to eat at a locally owned establishment. Looking for good tapas we decided to give Guardado's a try. The place is a cozy little place and looks like it could have been imported from Central or South America. On street parking is threadbare, but there is a public parking garage directly across the street.

The hostess was most accommodating and seated us promptly. Within minutes of being seated our waiter was right there to take drink orders and offering suggestions. I must say he was spot on with the golden margaritas as they we delicious and potent. Everything on the menu looked great and we settled for the vieras y portabelos. The scallop was pan seared perfectly, the shroom was huge and the basil oil was perfect. The carne a la parrilla was a large cut of tender meat covered in a delicious sauce. It was large enough for small eaters to eat as a meal. The highlight was the pulpo a la gallega. Oh my how they got the octopus so incredibly tender. The potatoes frita was also done well, but the octopus was so good that even my wife who was not a fan of it is now converted.

My hats off to Guardados, they have an excellent staff and incredible tapas. We will most certainly be back on our next visit.
