This is one of those come-every-year type of beaches! We took our two 9 yr. olds and our 10 yr. old to this beach just last week! We love coming here year after year .The beach is somewhat small and quaint. It is a really clean beach, nice views, not overcrowded at all. I've been coming to Long Sands Beach since I was young. I take my kids here every year at least a few times and we combine it with a trip to the York WIld Kingdom Zoo and Amusement Park. There is an area at the beach where there are rocks that go into the water. You can always see people, young and old alike, climbing in and on the rocks in search of various marine life or shells. Our kids love to climb on the rocks in search of little crabs or sea urchins. There is a really nice kids park here which has lots of climbing equipment, slides, swings, etc. It is very well-kept and there is always lots of little kids playing on these structures. Our kids spend as much time at the playing area as they do at the beach. I want to mention that, if you come here, you should bring at least a roll of quarters. You must pay to park anywhere at this beach...this includes weekends! All parking spaces have a timed meter that you have to put quarters in or risk getting a fine. I think you only get 15 mins. parking time for each quarter inserted. Believe me when I say that time flies by really fast there so be sure to put enough quarters in the meter! I cannot say this enough. Also, you absolutely positively MUST visit the charming little restaurant/candy shop called GOLDENROD KISSES here at the beach. It's been there on the little beach boardwalk strip for years and years. It is really just like eating at a 1930s or 40s era restaurant. Such a quaint and cute little restaurant that is not to be missed. The food is great, really down-home, prices are very reasonable, service is always good, nice and clean inside. An added bonus is that there is an adorable candy shop attached to the restaurant. You can even see actual taffy and candy being made there. I also want to mention that there is a super old-fashioned trolley that runs through the York Beach area. You may want to go for a ride on the trolley just for kicks. It's a really fun ride through the beaches of York, Maine.
