In my opionion, they have lost thier way, quality and service in exchange for pure profits!
We have stayed here every August for a few years. Every year there are issues, but most are just typical room problems, except the last two. Last year we had a very moldy smelling room. They came and sprayed some chemical and put a big fan in the room. But they wouldn't move us. Then at night we had a chemical smell. This year we walked into a room that smelled like urine at night... We discovered the smell at night when we closed the windows at night and it became strong smelling. We wondered why the cleaning people always opened the windows.... They knew! Hotel offered no room change because they were supposedly book full. I found out later this was not true. They offered no apology (accept the maintenance staff) and no discount.. Basically saying we will try and clean the air filter.. I.e. To bad!
On another topic of price, the kitchen / bar is $$$$ cost of the kitchen, with low quality drinks and horrible wait times. Don't bother with the mixed drinks, at the more than $8 per drink, which are just a little amount of cheap mix, crushed ice and a shot of alcohol, you can get much better quality tasting drink in a bottle at any liquor store.
The staff (not behind the desk) are friendly and very helpful. The woman preparing the drinks and food is super nice and very helpful too, I don't blame her for the prices. Her breakfast are good, but be prepared to wait a long time for everything from this kitchen... It's usually Only her and with a hotel this size it makes them a lot of money, but you better prepare to wait.
The location is beautiful, the pools are great and there are a few very close restaurants that are very nice. It's too bad they are so profit hungry that you are treated poorly for what type of experience they could have presented and it would have made paying hat much acceptable! It seams to be getting worse every year I go!

I unfortunately am not able to pull any specifics of your stay without a bit more information. I've searched through our front desk logs and have not been able to find anything that matches your concerns and time of stay. We did have one concern about an odor last week, however they let us know at checkout & didn't call down during their stay. It doesn't sound like this was your party.
From reading your review, it sounds like our staff did respond. When the weather is cooler, we do tend to open windows as compared to running the air conditioning as well as opening them when the carpets are being cleaned to assist with them drying.
Whenever a room is available for the length of stay, we do our best to offer it to the guests if they desire to move. I am sorry to hear that you felt we did not tell the truth with regards to our availability - our availability changes frequently and we do try to track guests who are in house and desire a room move.
I am sorry to hear that you felt the cafe was expensive and low quality. We do our best to stay competitive for the area and follow Maine alcohol serving guidelines. We also have our restaurant, the Sun'n Surf, for those guests who desire table service.
I will share your feedback on the cafe staff and rooms staff. We do hope that you were able to enjoy Long Sands Beach and everything that York has to offer.
