An upmarket restaurant in Wiscasset with a great position on the waterfront.
I suspect we were unlucky the evening we ate there. They were quiet so we were given a good window table. The place has a nice atmosphere and I know that local people like it and indeed the couple sitting at the next table enjoyed their meal.
We were hassled to order a drink before we had chosen what we were going to eat and were not offered the specials so we chose from the standard menu. Warm rolls were brought, but unfortunately they were not cooked through so the inside went back to dough when touched.
My Finnan Haddie was unremarkable. It is smoked haddock in a cream sauce served with two large triangles of toast, rice and vegetables. With toast and rice there was too much starch. The presentation was uninspired and it was not particularly flavoursome. The vegetables were OK.
My wife chose broiled haddock from their light meals. It was dry and flavourless. It was supposed to be broiled in butter, but that was not evident. It had some sort of reddish powder on top (Old Bay Seasoning?), but that had no flavour. It came with potato, which turned out to be a very ordinary mash, and coleslaw. The tartare sauce that should have accompanied it never appeared. The glass of Pinot Grigio was fine, but expensive.
The total was $43 dollars which we felt was expensive for what we ate.
