This was our second stay at the Hampton Inn in Wells, and it didn't disappoint. The hotel was immaculate. Not a speck of dirt to be found! It would be nice if there was a shuttle to the trolley, and breakfast is REALLY lacking, but otherwise our stay was great. The beds are clean and comfortable, and the bathroom is updated and clean - For the money, you can't beat it!

Finding lodging at the last minute on the southern Maine coast in early September is a challenge, but we found a good price at the Hampton Inn and Suites between Wells and Ogunquit. We've had fairly good luck with Hampton Inns in the past, but this one is the best we've found, a clear step above what we've found elsewhere in terms of quality of furnishings, size of rooms, and overall condition of the property. Most notably, the room was huge! We had a double queen suite (which I gather is the "standard" room)--two beds, a comfortable couch, desk, wet bar in the entry way, the bath and toilet area separated from the sink and closet; in short, an uncrowded space that made the stay very comfortable. Our room was quiet--no noises intruding from outside, none from the hallway. The breakfast area is large and well laid out; the only drawbacks were the hot offerings (the "omelettes" were rubber-like, both egg and cheese, and the 'make yourself' waffles tough). The cold selections were ample and varied, and coffee and tea are available at all hours. We did not use the pool or fitness area, but both looked to be clean, with good space, and welcoming. The hotel is about 4 miles north of central Ogunquit, so one must drive to dinner and sites; there's nothing much in Wells to see or do. For anyone wanting to explore the southern Maine coast, this is a very good, and reasonably priced, option. we recommend it.

The hotel was understaffed for the Holiday weekend. The breakfast lady was very busy and really needed help, the cleaning staff was overwhelmed and did not clean our room between the first and second night, the pool was not cleaned, there was sand on the stairs going into the pool and sand on the bottom of the pool that accumulated but not vacuumed. Management does not have control in this hotle.

Facility is up to date and clean, staff was very friendly and helpful, and perfect location in between my two destination (beach and zoo). However, fitness facility does not have cleaning products...just towels. Cut my leg on the bikes poor design (oversized plastic display) and the beds are completely uncomfortable so only slept a couple hours. I would recommend if you can sleep on ANYTHING and don't plan to use the gym

Our first time at this hotel was during a huge snow/ice storm about 6 years ago. We were just so happy to find a place and didn't care what it was or how much it cost. We were extremely impressed with the hotel. We still talk about how nice that one night was and decided to spend a night there this year on our summer vacation. Again, we were not disappointed. The room was spacious, clean and quiet. The bed was extremely comfortable (soft) and the bathroom was roomy and modern. The continental breakfast was delicious. The gardens and surrounding grounds were well cared for and beautiful. Would definitely take a detour and stay here again.

Room tip: make sure to ask for a room with a fridge if you want one. Also, if you are a tea drinker - bring your own kettle b/c like most hotels, there is a coffee maker provided but not a kettle.
