We have been staying at Belle of Maine for over 20 years. One of our favorite places in Maine. They consistently have offered value and hospitality but we were disappointed this time. First, rates were higher than they have been in the past for Memorial Day weekend and no specials offered as they used to. But in addition, they now charged me 3% to use my Credit Card. That isn't unacceptable if you have a payment choice, and once I learned of it, I did pay the remainder in cash on arrival, but they require one night payment by CC to make reservation. It just rubbed me the wrong way. One of my chief reasons for staying there is the outdoor hot tub. It was not heated when we arrived. Another disappointment. And while I know they like their dogs and so do many of their visitors, I don't want 2 big dogs bothering me when I sit on the deck. Such a shame. We have enjoyed this place for so many years. I guess we will find a new favorite. Maybe it was time anyway for a change.
