This is about our 10th time eating at the Maine Diner. We arrived around 4 p.m. on a weekday for an early dinner. We only waited about 10 minutes for a party of 4. We were seated in the side room. Our waitress was very helpful and efficient. The Manager/owner was definitely a source of complaint for us (he was obviously someone important because his picture is in several photographs signed by famous visitors to the diner). On several occasions, he would come into the room where we were seated and LOUDLY shout to the servers about table availability. He startled several guests with his shouting and interruptions. A diner is a loud place to being with, but this was ridiculous! When it came time for the food, a woman at the table next to us ordered one of the evening specials, beef stew. It arrived in a breadbowl. It was so terrible that she could not eat it. The chef came out (a woman) and informed her that they were immediately taking it off of the specials menu, admitting that it was not edible! She then erased it from the white board. One of the members of our party ordered the chicken pot pie. It was not good. The vegetables were crunchy and frozen tasting and the white sauce had absolutely no flavor at all. She took it home to feed to her dogs. We did not order the seafood because the prices were outrageously high and given the feedback from the people seated next to us, we didn't think it would be worth the price. Two kids at our table were served old fruit (as part of a fresh fruit salad) but their meals were reported as "good". One other person ordered a hamburger which was reported as OK. All in all, a big disappointment this time and we are just not sure if we will return again.
